What would have made Lost Things better?

I really loved this book right up until the end. I started listening to it around 2:00 a.m. and was up until nearly 4:00 a.m. when I finally forced myself to go to bed. I couldn't wait to get back to it after work today, and the ending was so dissatisfying that if it had been a physical book, I'd have thrown it across the room. If it had said "to be continued" I'd have been upset, but I'd have been satisfied. However, there's nothing on Rector's website to indicate there will be a sequel. I got this book because it was on an Audible Reviewer's Recommended list. If I can figure out who the reviewer was, I won't be picking up any of their recommendations in the future.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Probably a Lee Child's novel.

What three words best describe Todd Haberkorn’s voice?

I have a hearing disability, and Haberkorn often speaks too softly for me to understand what he's saying. I have to keep rewinding and turning up the volume to pick up what I'd missed.

What character would you cut from Lost Things?

The homeless guy the protagonist keeps seeing who apparently isn't there.

Any additional comments?

I don't mind a cliffhanger ending, but this was just ridiculous.

Would you listen to Devil's Bride again? Why?

Yes. I'm not a big Regency romance fan, but I loved this book. Stephanie Laurens's characters really came to life for me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Devil's Bride?

There were too many to pick one I liked.

What about Simon Prebble’s performance did you like?

Excellent narration. I have a hearing problem, so I'm always a little leery when it comes to British narrators because I often find them difficult to understand. That wasn't the case here.

If you could sum up Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet in three words, what would they be?

Fun, Sexy and Smart.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Left me wanting the next book right now.

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Lorelei King is, in my opinion, one of the best book narrators out there. I have a hearing problem, and I never have problems listening to her books. Her voice is clear and crisp, and she has a great range for both male and female voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I felt the plot in this book was a little lighter than the other three books, and the pacing was a little slower than the other books, but it was still a great book. This is one of those series that I will listen to in one or two sessions--if I can't start early enough on day one to listen to the entire book, I'll be up early on day two to finish it. There aren't too many books out there that make me want to do that.

Any additional comments?

Anyone who's a fan of the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series will probably love this series too. Charlie reminds me of what Stephanie would be if she had a paranormal bent.

Would you try another book from Nalini Singh and/or Justine Eyre?

I love Nalini Singh's books, but I have a hearing problem, and Justine Eyre's voice is not for the hard of hearing. Trying to understand her has made the Archangel series hard work to listen to rather than the ability to sit back and enjoy the story. The stories themselves are great, but as I said, the narration is not ideal. Eyre's range is limited, and often her dialogue is almost whispered. I purchased the first four books in the series before listening to book one. Now I have to decide whether or not purchasing book five will be worth the effort.

What did you like best about this story?

The world-building and interesting characters in all of Singh's books is extraordinary

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her voice doesn't have enough range, and she doesn't speak clearly enough for the hard of hearing to be able to sit back and enjoy the book. Also, much of her dialogue is almost whispered, so you're often going back and upping the volume so you can hear what was said.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Angels' Blood?

None

Any additional comments?

No
