Historia
A prisoner by her own choice, Averella enters the prison known as Zagerah. There, the oppressive government throw innocent men and boys to either be killed by the dangerous environment or be brutally murdered by the Hunters—magically enhanced assassins with only one objective: to kill the prisoners. The government never takes women, so Averella disguised herself as a man to save her sickly brother. As a Hunter, Jared has only ever known the life of a killer.

Great adventure in an alternate world
Revisado: 12-05-24
I really liked this book. Both author and reader are very good. It is well written and easy to listen to and understand.
A strange world full of interesting people. No explanation of the world mechanics is provided but none was really needed. I found it very easy to suspend this world for the duration of the story.
Non-spoiler description of the story:
Men and boys are snatched from their villages and placed in Zagerah, a prison from which there is no escape. Averella's sickly brother Gabriel was taken from their home. Knowing he can't survive on his own, Averella becomes Dalex, a young man, in order to help him and allows herself to be captured. Inside Zagerah, the prisoners are hunted and killed by beings called Hunters.
Many battles and plot twists ensue in this very well written and plotted story intertwined with the word of God. The world building of the prison is very detailed. The characters are true to themselves as they grow and develop. I look forward to book 2 of the series.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys adventure stories with a twist or two or more.

Water water everywhere
Revisado: 06-30-22
The connection theme for these stories is water. Whether in the water of around the water, these are a great collection of short stories. Different takes and different worlds but connected by water. I really enjoyed them all.
Excellent choice of reader. Easy to listen to, and great enunciation.

Life was much easier when she was able to see ahead.

Rumpelstiltskin origin story.
Revisado: 06-23-22
'The Weaver's Son' is an origin story for Rumpelstiltskin. It is a very good story, well written, plotted with likeable characters. There are unexpected twists which I found enjoyable. I really enjoyed the book for its magic and personal relationships. I recommend 'The Weaver's Son' to anyone who likes fairy tales that any kid can listen to and enjoy. But it's not just for kids.
I would have enjoyed it more with another narrator. She just isn't someone I want to listen to.

Adventures can be dangerous

Well told and well narrated story about a girl who wishes for some excitement in her life. Be careful what you wish for.
All but kidnapped from her home and taken across the border to another world, she finds that not all excitement is healthy. Her life is in danger from multiple sources: kidnappers, wildlife, and others.
Well-developed characters who continue to grow throughout the story make for great reading.

When an army of dragon riders shows up at Brynja’s doorstep, the knight protector has to warn her queen.

Thrilling Space Opera about synthetic intelligence
Revisado: 01-29-22
The Chronicles of Theren, the first true synthetic intelligence, is fantastic.
First of Their Kind (Book One) starts with awareness as Theren opens his mind for the first time. It continues through their development. Follow through their growth and search for allies and family.
Their Greatest Game (Book Two) has Theren and Jill fighting on two fronts, political and emotional, against the anti-SI groups. After losing Jill, Theren longs for the stars, but he is needed at home to run the International Space Agency.
Their Pieces Were Stars (Book Three) takes Theren into space. They attempt to discover the fate of two colony ships which disappeared. Theren discoveries more than one mystery that they must solve for their own peace of mind.
This is a great series with a great narrator. I recommend this series to anyone who loves science fiction with heart.

Humans and Mystics have been at war for as long as Kala can remember. For this reason, contact with any of the magical creatures that inhabit the forest near her home is punishable by death. So when an elf rescues her from being kidnapped by his brother, she has good reason to question his motives. That is, until she learns the truth: that it was a human who killed her mother, not a Mystic, and that she and the whole kingdom are being lied to. But confiding in the wrong person opens old wounds, and Kala must choose between her family and a blossoming romance....

Humans vs. Mystics, yet love can bloom.
Revisado: 06-16-21
I greatly enjoyed the well developed characters and the world building in Ring of Fire.
The War between the Humans and the Mystics, those who use magic or are magic, continues in a low key way, but is about to break open again. Kala breaks her uncle's rules and goes into the forest. She returns safely, but she is followed. She ventures into the forest again, but danger strikes and she is rescued by Azlyn, an elf. an evil Mystic. Or is he. He calms her down and returns her to her home. She can't stop thinking about Azlyn, so when he invites her back into the woods, she goes.
As their love blooms, secrets come out and war finds them.
This book was a great read for this well over young adult reader. I would recommend Ring of Fire to anyone 10 to 15, or someone young at heart who loves adventures in a magical world.
