Historia
In 1927, eight-year-old Clara Harrington’s magical childhood shatters when her mother, renowned author, Bronwyn Newcastle Fordham, disappears off the coast of South Carolina. Bronwyn stunned the world with a book written in an invented language that became a national sensation when she was just twelve years old. Her departure leaves behind not only a devoted husband and heartbroken daughter, but also the hope of ever translating the sequel to her landmark work. As the headlines focus on the missing author, Clara yearns for something far deeper and more insatiable: her beautiful mother.

A warm hug
Revisado: 04-14-25
If you’re looking for a warm hug of a book, this is it. I love the dual narration, and Julia Whelan is the queen as usual!

Historia
How did a libertine who lacks even the most basic knowledge of the Christian faith win 81 percent of the white evangelical vote in 2016? And why have white evangelicals become a presidential reprobate's staunchest supporters? Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping account of the last 75 years of white evangelicalism, showing how American evangelicals have worked for decades to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism.

Informative but not great narration
Revisado: 04-12-25
This was really informative and had a lot of aha moments for me, and provided context that I hadn’t had before reading. It got really slow about halfway through. I really wish that non-fiction authors would prioritize finding great voice actors to narrate their books. The narrator’s voice was extremely quiet and at times bored me to tears because of the lack of expression. I had to listen with the volume all the way up through the entirety of the book. I think a different voice actor could’ve made this a solid 4-4.5 star listen.

Historia
For decades, Amy ran. Through the dirt roads of Amarillo, Texas, where she grew up; to the campus of the University of Virginia, as a student athlete; on the streets of New York, where she built her adult life; through marriage, motherhood, and a thriving career. To outsiders, it all looked, in many ways, perfect. But Amy was running from something—a secret she was keeping not only from her family and friends, but unconsciously from herself. “You’re here, but you’re not here,” her daughter said to her one night. “Where are you, Mom?”

Historia
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident.

Superb duology
Revisado: 02-22-25
I absolutely loved this duology. I have been waiting for Rebel Witch to come out since I finished HH last summer, and it did not disappoint. I loved the dual viewpoints, enemies to lovers …..but I really loved how the world building wasn’t too complex and tedious. We need more fantasy duologies!

Historia
Nothing about Semiramis's upbringing could have foretold her legacy. Born to a woman scorned by Aphrodite and raised as an orphan on the outskirts of an empire, Semiramis was never meant to hold power. But that does not mean she was not made for it. When she meets a young representative of the new Assyrian king a path unfolds before her, one that puts her in the midst of a brutal world and at the heart of two men raised as brothers—one who just happens to be king.

I really enjoyed the voice of the narrator. The pacing was great, and Semiramis is a strong female character.

So good and so messy
Revisado: 02-07-25
Wow, this book took me through the spectrum of emotions. Multiple times I just sat with my head in my hands because of the excruciatingly twists and turns. Overall a solid 4-4.5⭐️ read, but gaw it was messy.

RY does it again!
Revisado: 12-01-24
This was SO good. RY’s standalone books are some of my favorite romances…..wonderful individual character storylines that come together so well. I was skeptical because the reviews of this were IMO overly critical. Juniper’s cleverness and determination was the thread that everyone didn’t know they all needed. I very much enjoyed Hudson and Allie’s simmering romance. I didn’t want this one to end!
