Historia
Imagine a region in space where the force of gravity is so strong that nothing - not even light - can escape. This phenomenon is a black hole: one of the most exotic, mind-boggling, and profound subjects in astrophysics. Nearly everyone has heard of black holes, but few people outside of complex scientific fields understand their true nature and their implications for our universe. No movie, novel, or other fictional treatment of black holes matches Professor Filippenko’s absorbing presentation of the actual science behind these amazing objects.

Too many visual references
Revisado: 12-02-22
Several parts of the “book” make reference to images and videos that aren’t made available here. Definitely would have benefitted more from the a/v version of this course.

Had to return book - performance was just awful
Revisado: 05-03-21
I wanted so much to be able to listen to and learn from this book - unfortunately the narration is awkward and robotic and super slow and I tried really hard to listen thinking that the author would find her groove but after 1 hour just had to give up. Such a shame given how engaging she is when I see her talking in online videos. Maybe try the sample before you buy or get the kindle edition and read it for yourself. I wish I had checked the reviews on Amazon UK and Amazon AU before I bought it as they were more helpful than the ones on Amazon.com

Historia
Have you heard that language is violence and that science is sexist? Have you read that certain people shouldn't practice yoga? Or been told that being obese is healthy, that there is no such thing as biological sex, or that only White people can be racist? Are you confused by these ideas, and do you wonder how they have managed to challenge the logic of Western society? In this probing volume, Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay document the evolution of the dogma that informs these ideas, from its coarse origins in French postmodernism to its refinement within activist academic fields.

essential reading to understand the madness of modern social tides. the production is unfortunately distracting with clear transitions even within a single sentence, and I found the narration difficult to get past and focus on the content.

Advice to avoid healthy fats and stay out of the sun has been proven to be detrimental to longevity and can wreak havoc on your system.

Super patronising
Revisado: 02-10-20
While there was some interesting information in this book it felt like it was often stated with very broad brush strokes and no facts or references to studies to back it up. A lot of the information in the book is also available on line and is nothing new and sometimes contradicts itself - milk is bad but cream is good? It felt like this was overall an advertisement for the carnivore diet and very much biased towards it and other diets such as Atkins and cherry picks facts to support what he eats. I get the eating like your ancestors paleo aspect, but he seems deluded that our ancestors ate primarily meat and limited plants. The dialogue is often patronizing towards the rest of the medical profession and the listener - you either agree 100% with what he says or you are an idiot.
The narration was often robotic.
He talks a lot about weight loss - if you are interested in weight loss and health read the Obesity Code it is brilliant. If you are interested in health and what to eat, listen to How not to Die.

I came across Gin's Facebook group first while I was starting to get curious about intermittent fasting and then decided to listen to her book. Best decision ever - she presents the information she shares so well and provided great references for follow on reading materials. Her narration style is great and this book has started me down a great new health journey.

Historia
We are in the midst of an obesity epidemic, but despite being inundated with diet advice we are only getting fatter. We count calories and exercise regularly, yet still the pounds won't budge. Why? In this highly enjoyable and provocative book, Dr Jason Fung sets out a groundbreaking new theory: that obesity is caused by our hormones, rather than a lack of self-control. He reveals that overproduction of insulin in the body is the root cause of obesity and obesity-related illnesses including type 2 diabetes

Better books out there
Revisado: 12-26-19
I have recently become really interested in intermittent fasting and have read both Obesity Code and Delay, Don't Deny which were excellent books. I thought this would give me more insight into the science/process or phases of autophagy but it felt like a commercial for other keto books. It felt disjointed and failed to distinguish between ketosis and autophagy and didn't really address some of the points it claimed it was going to.
Narration often felt almost robotic but I don't know if that was because of the narrator or just the way the content is structured - I had to rewind back several times because some sentences just seemed to make no sense.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.
