Historia
It is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces, some familiar, others only just appearing, are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead.

The narrator
Revisado: 02-01-11
I have to agree with all those who have expressed disappointment that Roy Dotrice does not narrate the fourth book in the series. John Lee has a nice voice, but his vocal interpretation overwhelms the text, and I find myself listening more to his strange cadence than the story. I really hope that Roy Dotrice will narrate the next one.

Great mature heroine
Revisado: 02-24-06
More romance than suspense, featuring a complex heroine of a certain age with interesting secrets and a lot of nerve. Very enjoyable, and reader Kate Reading is always great.

Historia
In his final hours in the Oval Office, the outgoing President grants a controversial last-minute pardon to Joel Backman, a notorious Washington power broker who has spent the last six years hidden away in a federal prison. What no one knows is that the President issues the pardon only after receiving enormous pressure from the CIA. It seems Backman, in his power broker heyday, may have obtained secrets that compromise the world’s most sophisticated satellite surveillance system.

If you must, get the abridged version...

...because then you won't have to listen to the HOURS of the main character learning Italian, for no very good reason. When I reached the end of this book I searched my library for another segment because I couldn't believe it was the end - so many gaping plot holes. I kept waiting for a reason to like the main character - will he redeem himself in some way? A few paragraphs regretting his past misdeeds are all we get. What's the point. A mistep by this author, who seemed to want to write a book about Italy - which would have been a great book.
