There hasn’t been a witch born in the Orchière clan for generations. According to the elders, that line is dead, leaving the clan vulnerable to the whims of superstitious villagers and the prejudices of fearmongering bishops.

I am enjoying this series and this book ties together perfectly the first book in the series. I Love the descriptive writing, and amazing narration. It is a leap thru time and the evocative emotions of the characters as well as the miraculous way the trials and challenges ushers the reader thru the story.I felt so involved with the entire melange of this second book I actually was drawn thru the portal she creates to take us into our own escapes. Wonderful reading.

After Grand-mere Ursule gives her life to save her family, their magic seems to die with her. Even so, the Orchires fight to keep the old ways alive, practicing half-remembered spells and arcane rites in hopes of a revival. And when their youngest daughter comes of age, magic flows anew. The lineage continues, though new generations struggle not only to master their power, but also to keep it hidden. But when World War II looms on the horizon, magic is needed more urgently than ever.

magnificent...

what an amazing book...It was the first time in a while I could totally connect with the story and how it was written. I almost did not indulge due to the first review that defined the importance it seemed to evoke but I enjoyed the entire skill this writer exhibited and the most breathtaking auditory performance the narrator delivered. It is similar in all aspects of life potential for us all with our disappointments and trevails ,but leaping thru centuries of this story was an amazing exploration that took me in totally. I was sad when I finished it but will go on with the series.

Historia
When single mother Liv is commissioned to paint a mural in a 100-year-old lighthouse on a remote Scottish island, it's an opportunity to start over with her three daughters - Luna, Sapphire, and Clover. When two of her daughters go missing, she's frantic. She learns that the cave beneath the lighthouse was once a prison for women accused of witchcraft. The locals warn her about wildlings, supernatural beings who mimic human children, created by witches for revenge. Liv is told wildlings are dangerous and must be killed.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Historia
A body always tells a story - but this child’s was a blank page. Rita reached for the lantern. She trained its light on the child’s face. "Who are you?" she murmured, but the face said as little as the rest of her. It was impossible to tell whether, in life, these blunt and unfinished features had borne the imprint of prettiness, timid watchfulness, or sly mischief. If there had once been curiosity or placidity or impatience here, life had not had time to etch it into permanence. Only a very short time ago, the body and soul of this little girl had still been securely attached.

A Breathtaking writer and narrator.
Revisado: 11-23-21
Of the books that have captivated me, this one is beyond magnificent in the telling of a story. How life can usher us thru a portal to view the writing of this author and the amazing compliment of the narrator, it is among the best books I have ever read. Its journey will enthrall you and sweep you thru the river of the lives of those who exist between the pages of this story. The rang of characters and the ability to voice each ones authenticity was a rapture of what is able to be expressed by one of the best authors I have encountered.
