A tragic war story
Revisado: 09-25-24
A genuine war story with optimism, boredom, romance, and all the horrors of war viscerally described in a convincing Spanish accent. Idk what it is about the author’s prose but he has a tenderness about his writing that you don’t see in many male authors when it comes to romance. The ending is also tragic, but being a prequel you already know how some things will end just not how, somewhat like Rogue One. The one thing that bothers me about this audiobook, and the last one, is the songs. I don’t know what it is about the songs and I suspect it’s actually an audio mixing issue but if they were any longer I would actually consider skipping them. Anyway, good book, nice switch up with the narrator, and we gotta get book 3 out soon because there is a drought of good content out there.

Historia
Defeated by the Lady and cast from this world, all that was left of him was a foul trace of lingering evil. But the graveyard that was once the Barrowland contains more secrets than dead. All who would possess the power of the Dominator are drawn to the spike. A foolhardy band of thieves is the first to reach it, and a rapacious and malign spirit is unleashed on an unwary world. The forces gather, sides are drawn, and mortal men can only die as the Dark Lords battle for domination.

A good tangential end
Revisado: 10-30-23
Sorts out a lot of the loose threads that were left over from some of the other books around characters who didn’t head south with Croaker with a genuinely nice epilogue.

Good Sequel
Revisado: 10-17-23
Reads less like a journal in the way that the first book did, which is a little upsetting, but it’s a good story even if they did my boy Raven like that.

Revisado: 12-03-20
Some times it really do be like that.
Other than that pretty decent book that is the other side of the coin compared to Skitarius.

The Rogue One of 40k books
Revisado: 12-02-20
Beep boop the robots are going to war. At a glance an Ad Mech book may seem unappealing but I've got to say this book was more emotional than some of the space marine books I've listened too over the years mainly because its very easy to forget that these are people, sure they've got some extra bits, but they're still people at the core and surprisingly emotional for cyborgs. All in all, great read.
-Soft Spoilers-
This book really reminds me of Rogue One in a good way as it follows a similar-ish plot line of find thing, debate the use of said thing, use thing to get other thing, die, sacrifice allows allies to win the war. While that sort of spoils things and is kind of simplified I felt that I had a better connection with the main character, a skitarii commander who cares about his men and gets redeployed with a magos who doesn't care about the risk to his men's lives. Books like this are few and far between and if you've got a spare credit or are looking for something to read pick this up.

Constantin Valdor. It is a name that brings forth images of heroism, honour and peerless duty. For it is he who commands the will of the Legio Custodes that most esteemed and dedicated cadre of elite warriors. He is the Emperor’s sword, His shield, His banner and he knows no equal. Clad in shining auramite, his fist clenched around the haft of his Guardian Spear, he is the bulwark against all enemies of the throne, within or without. Nearing the end of the wars of Unity, Valdor’s courage and purpose is put to the test as never before.

Can Chris Wraight please have a team of lore nerds
Revisado: 04-03-20
I get very conflicted with Chris Wraights books because they are well written by themselves but the are not consistent with the greater 30k/40k lore. In this book we get a lot of good lore but then suddenly we’re told that the legions had their icons before finding their primarchs? Also apparently the emperor thought of the primarchs as sons? Those two things not only are out of character but they have books that address those issues. I get wanting to hint at the dark angels helping with the conflict but anyone who knows 30k will know that a Roman numeral 1 on the pauldron would be more of a name drop than the legion heraldry. Overall kinda annoyed/ disappointed because it was good up until the last 2-3 chapters where all this happened.
