might be better in book form
Revisado: 04-03-24
not a terrible read but for an audiobook it has too much narration that makes it easy to lose track of what is being said, causing you to backtrack to go over what you missed or just go meh, and move on. after backtracking over the same spot several times I started to do the latter. if all you want is a long book to consume your hours driving or at work (why I picked it up) it will occupy your hours, but I was all too ready to get back to one of my other series by the end of it.

Historia
When little Zanna's oldest brother died just before Christmas, she was left with the gift she had made for him - a picture that only he would have understood. Every Christmas, Zanna's gift is brought out and displayed as a way of including their lost brother in the celebration. This is the story of the life of that family, and of the many gifts they gave each other that could only be understood with love.

Historia
Three days ago, Jack Mitchel saved his life. By dying. He dodged a world-ending bullet—in the form of an extinction-level asteroid cannonballing toward Earth—by successfully uploading his mind into the brand-new, ultra-immersive, fantasy-based VRMMORPG, Viridian Gate Online. Unfortunately, he's also stumbled headlong into a secret conspiracy that will transform V.G.O. into a new feudal dark age. Jack expected to live out his new fantasy life in peace, but now he and his misfit crew of rebels are the only ones preventing a tyrant emperor and his regime from taking power.

Jarring
Revisado: 08-17-23
To be honest, a good story and a twist I was hoping would happen, but the ret conning of the first book was too jarring in my opinion.
*spoilers* ... and ranting.
in the first book they stole Carreras opportunities to become strong and his faction seal which would allow him to make a faction explaining how the balance of the game doesn't allow for just giving you those things, and restrictions on this or that ect. and then without any explanation, suddenly he has a faction and is stronger than the MC who has been getting lucky break after lucky break that should have made him just as strong if not stronger than even those whose opportunities he didn't steal away, but noooo, he just has to have a nemesis so bam, he is a holy paladin with mount 3 times larger than the literally dragon our mc got by shear luck. and paladins are the class notorious for having to be good aligned and sticking to oaths right? well a Spanish dictator constantly threatening to kill you and burn down everything around you ect ect sounds just super good right? ... sigh just didn't make sense and felt like retcon, if they had somehow explained it I wouldn't be so upset but honestly these jarring details made it hard to enjoy the rest of the story. I am still going to listen to the next one but I probably wouldn't recommend this series if someone asked me for recommendations.

Thankfully, everything isn't quite as hopeless as it seems - Jack has a plan. Sort of. With only a handful of supporters, he's going to get the jump on the bloodthirsty empire, by snatching one of their key cities right from underneath their noses. In order to pull off the impossible, however, Jack's going to have to develop his formidable Shadowmancer powers.

The world teeters on the brink of destruction. The people who should be saving the Earth ignore Jason Asano's warnings and choose to loot the house as it burns down around them. He lacks the strength to save the world himself, but resolves to do it anyway, impossible be damned. The impossible, in this case, means seizing a power that no mortal should touch. It's a choice from which there is no turning back, and marks Jason's first step into a wider cosmos that he is not yet ready to face. Holding the fate of two worlds in his hands, Jason must decide for himself what home truly means.

I'm a delivery driver so I listen to a lot of audio books and yet I find myself coming back to this series over and over again because of it's amazing story and memorable characters brought to life by outstanding narration. I am generally bad at remembering names but the writing paired with the voice acting in this series almost never leaves me lost or confused. I genuinely care about the characters to the point of tears when something good or bad happens to them. this series being amazing is kinda it's thing ;)

had to stop listening to.
Revisado: 06-09-22
first off, not the worst story I have heard so I didn't rate it lower. I just was so frustrated at the illogical way some characters acted/reacted to events. I literally yelled in frustration when the main character submitted to getting stung a second time by a paralyzing stinger in a class just because her lab partner said it was her turn to the teacher. she didn't even try to defend herself or prove that she had already taken her turn getting stung even though she had smacked her head against the bench the first time she went and others would have noticed. basic survival instinct won't allow you to put yourself in harms way without a fight or good reason... would not recommend this title if logic and reason are important to your reading experience.

It should have been a case like any other: a missing princess, a king willing to pay in gold for her return. But before he realizes it, private investigator Eddie LaCrosse, a slightly shopworn sword jockey with a talent for discretion and detection, is swept up in a web of mystery and deceit involving a brutally murdered royal heir, a queen accused of an unspeakable crime, and the tragic past he thought he'd left behind.

good mystery adventure
Revisado: 04-20-22
has the feel of a mystery novel as the main character acts like a private detective in a somewhat fantasy setting as he tries to solve the supposed murder of his best friends son by his wife. well done and would recommend.

some reviews made me hesitant, but no regrets!
Revisado: 03-30-22
honestly was hesitant after reading some of the reviews but I got to say the ones that say this is a good redemption story are correct. good writing and great story telling. would recommend for a good read, but maybe not for kids, let's say late teens at least? mostly clean despite the more mature topics at times, handles it all expertly... now stop reading this review and listen to the actual story already :)
