Historia
Christian Cooper is a self-described “Blerd” (Black nerd), an avid comics fan and expert birder who devotes every spring to gazing upon the migratory birds that stop to rest in Central Park, just a subway ride away from where he lives in New York City. While in the park one morning in May 2020, Cooper was engaged in the birdwatching ritual that had been a part of his life since he was ten years old when what might have been a routine encounter with a dog walker exploded age-oldracial tensions. Cooper’s viral video of the incident would send shock waves through the nation.

Excellent narration by the author. I particularly like that the birdsong is included. Much appreciated.

Historia
When the black comedian first meets the beloved Sicilian grandfather of his Italian American girlfriend, Melissa, the wrong sparks fly. The most important member of her large family shuns Kamau. What follows is a bracing, true account of conflict and patience, in-laws and family heirlooms, as Melissa and Kamau deal with cold shoulders, rejection, and finally resolution.

Delightful!
Revisado: 05-14-21
It’s 100% true- Everybody Loves Kamau! I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent performance. I really appreciate how W. Kamau Bell shares his personal experiences with racism, dating, what it means to be part of a family. I laughed out loud many times and also found myself thinking about micro and macro racist aggressions well past the time I listened to this recording. Thank you, W. Kamau Bell, for being vulnerable and guiding listeners to do some serious self-examination while also making us guffaw.

Historia
Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

Benefits to Incorporating Nature into Your Life
Revisado: 06-05-19
Thought-provoking listen about how 3 days in wilderness can impact brain function, heart rate, stress response, your outlook. Follows journalist in process of divorce as she accompanies groups of veterans w/PTSD and women have been sex-trafficked on backcountry adventures. Scientific data is collected and analyzed so findings are not just experiential or anecdotal.
The bottom line is nature exposure during these events did have measurable and meaningful impacts on the participants. The takeaway is that we can use this information in our own urban lives to appreciate nature and get benefits without having to go someplace remote for 3 days.
