Smart and silly at the same time
Revisado: 05-29-23
Great narration. Characters are one dimensional but very fun. The protagonist is smart and yet not so much. It’s a fun read if you can suspend your need for logic and depth.

Historia
When psychic travel agent Leda Foley is approached by a man searching for his sister, she quickly agrees to help. The missing woman disappeared with a vintage orange car, a fat sack of her employer’s cash, and a grudge against her philandering husband—a man who never even reported her missing. Meanwhile, Seattle PD detective Grady Merritt has temporarily misplaced his dog. While he’s passing out bright pink “Lost” flyers at the Mount Rainier visitor’s center, the wayward pooch appears—with a human leg in his mouth.

Good enough for light listening
Revisado: 05-19-23
I enjoyed this book for the friendships, the little extra-sensory perception and the light mystery. If you want a tough mystery that shocks or surprises, go elsewhere. If you're looking for something to take your mind off of this crazy world we live in, and you want to feel loved and cozy, give it a try. Excellent narrators. Cute dialogue. Overall a book thats almost as good as a good soak in the tub. Relaxing and doesn't take a lot of brain power.

Historia
It was not common to awaken in a cloning vat streaked with drying blood. At least Maria Arena had never experienced it. She had no memory of how she died. That was also new; before, when she had awakened as a new clone, her first memory was of how she died. Maria's vat was in the front of six vats, each one holding the clone of a crew member of the starship Dormire, each clone waiting for its previous incarnation to die so it could awaken. And Maria wasn't the only one to die recently....

I like when authors read their own books
Revisado: 05-09-23
Even if the author does not sound like a professional performer, I still felt that I got to experience the book as intended. I can’t believe all these people saying the narration was dreadful. They completely miss out on the nuances and beauty of an author reading their own words. I loved this book and in the end I liked all the characters with all their flaws. I have listened to some “dreadful” audiobook narrators but this was not one of them. Listen without critiquing the performance and feel lucky that you are experiencing the story as the author tries to express how she envisioned it.

Historia
From idyllic small towns to claustrophobic urban landscapes, Mallory Viridian is constantly embroiled in murder cases that only she has the insight to solve. But outside of a classic mystery novel, being surrounded by death doesn’t make you a charming amateur detective, it makes you a suspect and a social pariah. So when Mallory gets the opportunity to take refuge on a sentient space station, she thinks she has the solution. Surely the murders will stop if her only company is alien beings. At first her new existence is peacefully quiet…and markedly devoid of homicide.

Thoroughly enjoyed
Revisado: 05-07-23
It had all the elements that I enjoy: mystery, aliens, extraordinary humans, unpredictable. I know my tastes don’t match everyone so I will more details about what I liked. A large cast of characters around one or two main characters. People from various backgrounds. Aliens who are among the characters who have depth. Symbiotic relationships that are mutually beneficial. A range of character ages. And not being able to predict where the story is going. The narrator was very good. There were things that were minor annoyances but what book is perfect? I don’t let them bother me so I won’t mention them. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. On to the next book.

Narrator wrong for book
Revisado: 04-11-23
I don’t know who had the idea of having an American narrate a book based in England but they should have chosen someone with a better English/British accent. In addition, the narration was as if to a child. A very young child. She should be narrating children’s book not YA or older.
The story was ok. The world was interesting but I would have enjoyed it more if the proper tone and better accents were used. I think with time, if the narrator listens to criticism, she may be pretty good some day. Read the book if you want to enjoy a pretty interesting world and story.

Love this series
Revisado: 12-05-22
For the most part I loved this book. It focused on a few characters, relatively speaking, and it was enjoyable to dig deeper into them. However I will say there were a couple characters I just wanted to slap so they would stop whining. But in the end, I could forgive them as at least one of them finally realized how to take control of their life and move on. I'm hoping in the next book, the other character will have done the same. I love this series and will miss it when I am done. I don't reread books anymore but maybe this series I might.

Soothing...a moment of calm our busy lives
Revisado: 05-04-22
Just as the butler described his job as soothing, I would call this book the same. Having said that, there were several issues. So if you don't mind not having all your questions answered, finding holes in the story, and very little magic or fantasy, then this book is as good as a nice warm bath. The narrator was perfect for the story and did a great job interpreting each characters voice. I would have given the overall rating a 3 1/2 but I suspect others would would feel the 3 or perhaps a 2 3/4 would have been more accurate. In any case, if you're the type of reader who can just go with the flow and ignore the holes in the story and you're looking for something very light, then this is a good read.

It's a certain style
Revisado: 04-20-22
I'm not good at literary distinction, so all I can do is describe this book as more of a history as seen through the eyes of two characters. The narrator himself has a distinctive style which is almost like a story teller. It's a slow moving book with some action but it's definitely not an adventure as much as a retelling of events. It's a nice break from the more standard styles of narrating and science fiction plot building. I was disappointed by the ending but I don't regret listening to this book. If you're looking for something a little different and are patient, then I would recommend this book. I would have given it a 2.5 if possible. It doesn’t mean it’s average. It means only some people will enjoy it.

Lila Mae Watson - the first black female inspector in the world's tallest city - has the highest performance rating of anyone in the Department of Elevator Inspectors. This upsets her superiors, because Lila is an Intuitionist: she inspects elevators simply by the feelings she gets riding in them. When a brand new elevator crashes, Lila becomes caught in the conflict between her Intuitionist methods and the beliefs of the power-holding Empiricists.

Hard to carwgorize
Revisado: 06-11-21
Is it a mystery? Is it an urban folk tale?
I will say it is hilarious if you love dry wit. If you like the unusual, this is for you. Who would have thought elevators were so important to the path of cities? I mean of course they are but to write a book about the love and mysticism and corruption? It's beautifully written. Almost like a poem.
The narrator has a swallowing issue. I sped up to 1.1 and barely noticed from then on. He was very good if a bit slow of pace.
