kind of disappointing
Revisado: 01-08-23
I have read some things by this author that I enjoyed, and of course Mr. Bray's performance was not a disappointment. But the book was just a retelling of the story of Jesus's last three years and death with a smattering of quantum Science fiction thrown in for some reason. All in all it was just OK.

Historia
The irresistible David Freed’s first mystery is a stay-up-late-to-finish thriller. Based in sunny Rancho Bonita - “California’s Monaco”, as the city’s moneyed minions like to call it - Cordell Logan is a literate, sardonic flight instructor and aspiring Buddhist with dwindling savings and a shadowy past. When his beautiful ex-wife, Savannah, shows up out of the blue to tell him that her husband has been murdered in Los Angeles, Logan is quietly pleased. Savannah’s late husband, after all, is Arlo Echevarria, the man she left Logan for.

Very enjoyable murder mystery. Even though the plot is a little formulaic, the characters are well developed. Ray Porter does an excellent job of interpretation, as usual.

loved it, just like all Jodi Taylor books.

Very engaging characters. Clever dialogue and fun to read. The attempted red herring was not a surprise--never believed it for a second. But it didn't detract from the overall story.

Revisado: 05-13-19
After the complex characters and witty plots of the St, Mary's and Frogmorton Farms series. this predictable and slow moving plot coupled with a very one-dimensiiable performance was a big disappointment. dont get this book looking for wit and charm:: you aren't going to get it.

Connecticut Yankee in a Alien Court
Revisado: 06-18-18
After I finished the first book in this series my thoughts were "really enjoyed the narrator and characters". About 1/4 of the way through this book I thought "hmm, this sounds familiar." I kept hearing Sir Boss in my head. Having said that, it's a novel way to look at what impact technology has on a primitive civilization. It's still a great read, and although I'm beginning to wonder how he's going to wake up back at home after killing off a bunch of knights, it's still fun to see how it goes. A fun read.

Like watching a movie--in my mind!!
Revisado: 01-30-18
The narrator was incredibly effective. He was able to draw me into the story so completely that I forget that he was there. I didn't have to get used to a strange cadence and his "voices' were consistent and never required a "who is this" moment. Of course he had a tremendous story to work with, with well defined heros and villians that you could love and hate without reserve. The historical society was fascinating and felt real and not one dimensional like many historical novels. Highly recommend.

Historia
This classic novel has been thrice adapted for the screen by the BBC. Mary Smith relates the story of her time with middle-aged spinster sisters Miss Matty and Miss Deborah. Witty, poignant, and often ironic, Cranford is the tale of what these two women will do to remain respectable, proper, and kind with only moderate means.

Satisfying trip to another time.
Revisado: 04-22-17
Highly entertaining and cleverly written. The characters are richly drawn and very engaging. It's like visiting a comfortable village where there is no concern for the larger world issues, but high concern for neighbors and friends. Wish we could all live in such a world, as narrow and unrealistic as it is. Davina Porter is an accomplished narrator and can be counted on to deliver masterful performances.
