Historia
I was nobody. No matter how hard I tried, I never fit in with anyone at my high school. Now I know why. Turns out I'm a witch. A scary powerful one, too. Except The Coven that claimed me won't teach me how to use my magic. Suddenly, I'm selected by the Goddess to hunt down a mythical locket needed to save the world from destruction. The only person who actually tries to help me is the alarmingly attractive Tennessee. He has immeasurable power and breathtaking mismatched eyes. I'm drawn to him on a level I can't explain...and he's forbidden from getting too close to me.

The Narrator
Revisado: 02-14-24
the narrator had a good reading voice, good intonation on excitement, fear, giddiness, anger. what she did NOT have was a different voice for each character. Everyone spoke in the same voice - male or female - demon or vampire, only One character had a southern country voice. And since the story bounces back & forth from the lead female to the lead male the ONLY way to know who was talking was to pay attention at the start of the chapter when the point of view was announced - Tagan or Tennessee. In the Later books she had multiple characters points of view sometimes changing every chapter and it was very very annoying.

Interesting from the first chapter
Revisado: 01-19-24
I was expecting more "history" of what led up to the need to create crops that would grow everywhere. instead the 1st book jumped right into the consequences. I'd have nightmares for sure if this were a movie, as it was I was able to get interested in the story late at night and not be afraid.
Many other medical horror books tend to drag out the character history building the horror slowly, but not this one! it was all action from start to finish.

Part 1 of 5 Not a Complete Series but an ok story
Revisado: 03-06-23
Spoiler Alert- non specific
The fantasy storyline of Dark World caught my interest from the start. Which begins in Vampire Wish (the complete series) Angel Trials (the complete series) then moves to Fairy Games (the complete series), then Elementals (the complete series), and finally Dragon Twins (the complete series). As far as I can tell this is the end of the series - so the story line finishes after 5 complete series sets of books. I rarely read "short stories" - I like epic and long involved stories - that's the only reason I began this series- because the 1st set was in my ideal story time range of about 30 hours. But to me each complete series reads like a single long book.
I did get VERY tired of the "romance" part of these books. From "Soulmates" to "Twin Flames" it was all a little redundant.
The WORST parts were when several sets of giddy teenagers got chosen to "save the world", yet in the Middle of a hazardous journey, a life threatening fight, or other would be tense part of what should be an epic adventure the "Mates" are kissing, desiring each other's touch, and mooning over their perfect love (or their insecure feelings that the relationship is one sided). Seriously - what person in their right mind stops to deeply kiss and moon over their Soulmate in the middle of a battle with a deadly Hydra? or a tricky but of time travel? or a battle with demons and Lucifer himself? it's just not realistic to be dreamy or horny in the midst of a life and death struggle! I often skip love scenes in stories because they aren't why I read epic fantasy, but in this last series a major couple in the story is discussing the resolution to a plot twist in between removing articles of clothing and even while literally poised on the tip of consummating their union. Insane. Nobody has a serious conversation at that point - it ruins the conversation and the romance alike

One of my favorites - with audible error
Revisado: 11-16-22
This audio book has a preface by David Drake telling why he chose the story of St George and the Dragon to include in this Anthology.
St George and the Dragon is a 10 minute short story - the Dragon and the George is over 10 HOURS long and it is NOT an anthology - however it IS by "Gordie Dixon" ...
Anybody want to explain or fix this?

Now, efforts are being made to resettle Bennett as a community where humans and Others live and work together. But as they reopen the stores and the professional offices and start to make lives for themselves, the town of Bennett attracts the attention of other humans looking for profit.

Spoilers - if you don't want to know about events in the story skip the review
I like all the characters in the story, I especially like that the female characters aren't all one stereotype. Even the main female characters have different skills and personality. What bugs me about this book is the way they all treat "sweet Abigail" - sure, she's a dishonest character, but not a malicious one. She is also considered a friend Of Barb Debany (however inadvisedly.). The Others are suspicious of all humans, but have never before failed to try to protect a person, a female person, who has been warned by a prophecy. Sure, characters do die, but when one of the blood prophet pups issues a warning they typically pull out all the stops to save that person. (Ponies, Sam, Nadine, Therrel, etc.)
I just thought it was strange, even if Abigail was selfish and deceitful. usually I like the deaths in a fictional character to have some moral or point, this one's does not seem to.
still a great series and I really hope to see more books about the others soon!

Revisado: 06-05-22
The world of the Others is complex and exciting. I even fell asleep listening and dreamed along with the story one evening - and it's a LOT scarier with images!
The characters and story line make me forget some of the gruesome events, yet I can see this world existing, somewhere across a nearby liminal threshold...

I kept skipping around trying to find a single scene that would snag my interest and make me want to see what happened next - couldn't do it... not one single scene.
Who could believe that, at 85mph a highway patrol officer would exchange a brief look with a girl in a rental car, immediately grasp that the guy driving the car behind her was an airport creep and pull him over so the boring and bored girl could continue her drive un watched?
