Historia
It was on the Silk Roads that East and West first encountered each other through trade and conquest, leading to the spread of ideas, cultures, and religions. From the rise and fall of empires to the spread of Buddhism and the advent of Christianity and Islam, right up to the great wars of the 20th century - this book shows how the fate of the West has always been inextricably linked to the East.

Historia
The publication of Go Set a Watchman in 2015 forever changed how we think about Atticus Finch. Once seen as a paragon of decency, he was reduced to a small-town racist. In Atticus Finch, historian Joseph Crespino draws on exclusive sources to reveal how Harper Lee's father provided the central inspiration for each of her books. A lawyer and newspaperman, A. C. Lee was a principled opponent of mob rule, yet he was also a racial paternalist. Harper Lee created the Atticus of Watchman out of the ambivalence she felt toward white southerners like him.

Fantastic historical writing
Revisado: 05-06-24
I recommend this book to any fan of Harper Lee’s classic, “To kill a mockingbird”. The story behind the story illuminates the hard truths of the Jim Crow south in a compelling way.
Additionally, the themes explored in this work are as timely as they were in 1963.

Sweeping aside the gossip, slander, and distortion that have shrouded the Borgias for centuries, G. J. Meyer offers an unprecedented portrait of the infamous Renaissance family and their storied milieu.

The author takes great care to illuminate fact from the legend.

As histories go this listen is quite entertaining. The mix of court politics, the Italian city state, the Italian Renaissance, and the central Papal players is a story with enough intrigue. I this listener’s opinion, the salacious narrative being tested out by the author makes for even a better representation. I highly recommend reading this book.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

It’s very hard not to admire the patient character development of this book. The read shares the adventures with the reader almost as if the reader is a part of it. If you are a fan of D&D or Magic the Gathering you will enjoy this book indeed. As a life long fan of all things fantastic I’m recommending this book to the reader. Enjoy!

Historia
In a collection of original essays, the venerated television journalist, Dan Rather, celebrates our shared values and what matters most in our great country, and shows us what patriotism looks like. Writing about the institutions that sustain us, such as public libraries, public schools, and national parks; the values that have transformed us, such as the struggle for civil rights; and the drive toward science and innovation that has made the US great, Rather brings his experience on the frontlines of the world's biggest stories, and offers listeners a way forward.

Dan Rather strikes a chord with me both of nostalgia and inspiration.
Revisado: 07-26-21
First off for a boy who daily listened to CBS news listening to Dan’s “steady” voice I simply felt a calm that too often today I don’t get to enjoy. Secondly, these essays allowed for a thoughtful exploration of modern American history that was both insightful and interesting. Finally, his attention to detail was just what the doctor ordered to navigate a turbulent time.
I commend this book to you.
