Really Good World Building, but Poor Characters.

This is a pretty solid "rebirth" story, but it could have been so much better! The pacing is there, world building is a check! But the emotional attachment is close to none. Because the the author chooses to focus on the progression of the town, with the book being so short with multiple povs, you can tell it sacrifices any emotional development from the MC to other supporting characters because by the end of the first book you can see the MC hasn't developed, which I thought the point of a "rebirth" story was a catalyst for just that: baggage from a previous life to be addressed.

Overall it isn't bad story, it's one of the most polished stories with this concept I've read, and the narrator is PERFECT. He has great range and to me he helps get past the lack of emotional depth because of his performance. So thumbs up on this one, it maybe flawed, but there is alot of growth left!

Even Nick Podehl Can't Save It

Literally half the book is exposition, you are water boarded to Hell (pun intended) with it. I hope the Author can realize not every single power, principle, lesson, person, pop-reference, character action, dimension, and ect. DOSENT HAVE TO BE EXPLAINED IN ONE GO.

SInce everything is explained the Author somehow treats it like we care about the characters, but he doesnt care to write a compelling demonstration of that: Author expains what character has done/is therefore we should care...that's not how it works.

At the very least I thought this book would use Heaven vs Hell dynamic creatively.... nope that doesn't exist either. This book is a waste of time, with nothing or little to offer. I don't know how this book got reviews with 3 stars and higher.

Author TELLS so much; It'll drive you mad. The Author isn't comfortable with leaving information for later, he or she has to tell you EVERYTHING about that one time of what could have been related to the god, human or Character. The lazy writing is meant to speed toward the "interesting" parts, unfortunately they arent that interesting. Bland World Building and Blander Characters.

Addiction To Cruelty

The performance is great, however the Author loves agony; essentially this is fantasy torture porn... Every little detail of pain is magnified to the highest degree, it's almost like the Author gets off detailing the seizures, hallucinations, and torture the main charcter goes through.

The part where the book was at its best was when the MC was hiding his illness from his friends, and the consequences of not depending on others. Instead, we get more torture.... ughh..

There could have been something compelling and there was a great potential for more, but all of it goes down the drain. Don't waste the credit unless you're a sucker for cruelty& suffering.

Spy Steampunk Thriller!!! Worth the Credit!!!

With a average plot, and generic villains how is this book pack worth your precious credit?

Modo. Despite how he calls himself a monster, he is incredibly human. While struggling with his deformity and the gift it presents, he has to grow up in the world of espionage. He is truly compelling along with his partner, Octavia. With them together any achievement feels really earned.

Add the spy/steampunk elements and Derek Perkins excellent preformance to this story and you get an incredibly rich & adventurous experience.
Please try this book! It's worth your time.

Generic Wish Fulfillment

Terrible Dialogue, feels like a guy who wasn't popular thinking about what a cool guy would say, and completely failing. Characters fall flat, Protagonist is one dimensional, Women are Furniture...
It's a waste of time, don't spend the credit!!
If you'll now excuse me, I'm going to wipe the blood off my ears.

A Beautiful Story

Normally, when I finish a particular series I feel a sense of loss, the thought of never getting something more tends to grip my heartstrings, but what happens in Year 4 left me with a feeling of pure satisfaction.
Year 4 provides the answers, the character development and more in such a full circle kind of way, I can't stop, but be smiling right now.

Less Simmer, More Plot

These "two" books are actually just one book split into two. It was a fun ride, but personally less fun than the previous books. I don't want to spoil much, but because of actions toward the middle, there is considerably less steamy scenes compared to the previous book packs: if you're only reading the Valens Legacy for the steamy stuff you will be let down, however if you just love the characters and Leland's skill, this book gets the job done.

More Crappy Horror Flicks Please!

This book is pretty damn good, and this series is filled with love and passion. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time ready this book. More scope of Characters lives, and their development of their mentality. In a way it feels like, I grew up alokng with them. However, no book is perfect. One complaint I do have is the emotional resolution to solving the problems don't seem to carry the impact they should have. Otherwise, Damn Good Book
