Historia
It was supposed to be a romantic getaway weekend in New York City. Breanna’s new boyfriend, Ty, took care of everything—the train tickets, the dinner reservations, the rented four-story luxury rowhouse in Jersey City with a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline. But when Bree comes downstairs their final morning, she’s shocked. There’s a stranger laying dead in the foyer, and Ty is nowhere to be found.

Loved the ending!
Revisado: 06-27-24
This book was unique but there are some parts that were formulaic. I follow plots closely and there are some elements of the story that are far-fetched or are just plain plot holes. However, the ending was unexpected. This story also brings to light the fact that social media is a very powerful tool that can be used for good and evil by everyday people.

I love a good funny mystery!
Revisado: 06-22-24
I really like Kellye Garrett. She is a very good writer (despite all the similies). I have listened to all her other books and really enjoyed them. Since this is a murder mystery, it feels wrong to say I laughed throughout the book, but I did. It keeps you guessing until the end. Bahni Turpin is one of my favorite audio book narrators. She always brings her A-game.

Just the right mix of politics and suspense.
Revisado: 04-27-24
JD Jackson is impressive as a narrator. This story is very well-written and seems plausible, which is the problem I have with so many thrillers. I really enjoyed it.

Historia
When the body of reality TV star Desiree Pierce is found on a playground in the Bronx the morning after her twenty-fifth birthday party, the police and the media are quick to declare her death an overdose. A tragedy, certainly, but not a crime. Yet Columbia grad student Lena—principled, headstrong, and allergic to the spotlight—knows that can’t be the case. Despite the bitter truth that the two hadn’t spoken in two years, they were half-sisters. Lena knew Desiree. And Desiree would never travel above 125th Street. Something is very wrong with the facts. So why is no one listening?

The twist didn't make sense
Revisado: 04-19-24
I liked it but the ending didn't make sense to me. I suppose the author did not want it to be easy to figure out. I like the characters and the performance.

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

This book was engaging
Revisado: 03-24-24
The story kept me hooked. I used to reaf and listen to true crime stories all the time and this story rates high for engagement and performance, but average for the ending. There were just so many wtf moments. Also, rhe police in this town didn't really investigate the murder. The lack of a forensic autopsy alone makes me think they got their badges out of a cracker jack box.

This story was well written and performed.
Revisado: 02-22-24
This story was very well written and excellently performed, but like most stories that deal with of poverty, racism, sexism, and colorism, it ultimately made me sad. Nevertheless, the ending was satisfying and this book is worth the read.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Whimsical and Serious at Once
Revisado: 05-15-23
I enjoyed the story. The dog's dialogue was hysterical. It was a but heavy handed, especially as it relates to the main characters' disdain for religion. I expect the parts relating to Elizabeth's treatment by men in the workplace and in academia was pretty common for the 1959s, but her producer's behavior was outlandish. Overall, even if people find this story preachy, I imagine it is similar to the stories of those trail-blazing women who dared to leave their home to do something they enjoyed and were meant to do, at a time when women were generally relegated to the realm of only being a wife and mother.

Historia
Katie Carr is a good person. She recycles. She's against racism. She's a good doctor, a good mom, a good wife...well, maybe not that last one, considering she's having an affair and has just requested a divorce via cell phone. But who could blame her? For years her husband's been selfish, sarcastic, and underemployed, writing the "Angriest Man in Holloway" column for their local paper.

I liked it but I wanted another ending.
Revisado: 04-23-23
I love Nick Hornby, and this book often made me laugh out loud. I don't need a fairytale ending in books, but this one was a little flat to me. I guess it is indicative of life, things not really being settled.
As usual, it is wonderfully written and humorous. The narration is fantastic. It is worth a read.

I really enjoyed this coming of age story. The ordinary and magical aspects are grounded and believable. Jazebel is a good protagonist with compassion and respect for the earth and all creatures. I appreciate this look into a culture I knew very little about.
