Historia
Why do people believe bunk? And what causes them to embrace such pseudoscientific beliefs and practices? Noted skeptic Massimo Pigliucci sets out to separate the fact from the fantasy in this entertaining exploration of the nature of science, the borderlands of fringe science, and - borrowing a famous phrase from philosopher Jeremy Bentham - the nonsense on stilts.

Too long
Revisado: 08-19-23
Maybe it’s just me but I found the book was too long for the message it needs to get across. The main message of a chapter is sometimes lost due to the length of the text.

Much more than I expected
Revisado: 03-25-23
This book doesn't just explore the possible benefits and dangers of AI. It covers a wide array of topics that are relevant to AI. The story in the intro is great! Some of the ideas explored in the chapter on energy production were so outrageous they felt taken from a sci-fi movie. I loved it. But I particularly enjoyed the chapters on goals and consciousness. Very well done Max!

Insightful but it could have been much shorter
Revisado: 09-06-19
This book shares a very valuable insight: performance is not equal to success. Performance is your ability to do the job but success is the recognition people award you if they benefit from and recognize your performance. In other words, if you're very good at what you do but nobody benefits from it or people don't find out about your work, you can't become successful.
There are many valuable insights like this scattered in the book. But that's precisely what I didn't like. The insights are scattered between long stories and examples that didn't have to be included. The author simply takes too long to get to the point, probably because he wanted the book to have a certain length.
Anyway, overall it's a good audiobook and it teaches valuable lessons.

Very hard to listen to
Revisado: 08-02-19
I've listened to one hour of the book and I couldn't follow it at all. I don't know if it's because the narrator has a very robotic way of speaking or because of the way the book is written but I just can't pay attention to it.

Classic personal development book
Revisado: 06-03-19
The entire message of the book is summarized in the title. Don't dispair when things go bad and instead try to see the good side and turn it into an advantage. Ryan presents the example of many great historical figures like Lincoln, Rockefeller, Edison, etc that don't apply at all to the average person. Overall I felt the book was pretty useless.
However the interview with Tim Ferris is really good and I learned a lot from it. Much, much more than from the book itself...
