As my favorite author over the last 25 years, Tom Clancy had shown that he had a gift for building characters and creating compelling and potentially realistic scenarios that enthralled his readers. In the last few years I've come to the conclusion that commercialism has won out over content. The books and stories that bear his name have been reduced to serialized soap operas. Gone are the world threatening geopolitical themes where real people face mortal combat. The sole purpose of these books now seems to do nothing but lead the reader to purchase the next one. I, for one, will go back and reread, red storm rising, clear and present danger, and without remorse and enjoy the author that Tom Clancy was, not the book selling comic book series that bears his name today.

What did you love best about Red Storm Rising?

Full of interesting characters put into historically plausable scenarios. One of my favorite Clancy novels before he went all commercial with ghost writers.

Big Disappointment...

I've been a huge Clancy fan for many years reading everything he writes, and I have to say I'm very disappointed with this book. It starts off well but quickly falls very flat with story lines that should be important but go nowhere. There's nothing eyepoping about this book, no clever plots, no brilliant weaponry. Even the terrorists "grand scheme" is weak. Very little action and a boring storyline insure I won't be buying the hardcover version as I usually do. I suspect that he's letting others do his writing and slapping his name on the cover to promote sales like many others are doing today (ie;Clive Cussler). Don't sell out to publisher pressure Tom! Write your own material!
