Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Tremendous narration
Revisado: 05-27-21
Not only is the story of the upbringing of a black youth in the fifties so come alive under the deft hand but the narrator most cogently brought the author's words to stunning life. It was wonderful.

Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 01-16-21
While many reviews criticized the narrator, I found the book so captivating that I paid no attention to the narration. The story of the young girl's attempt at mastery of the chess world and her battle with addiction kept me glued to the audiobook.
I think knowledge and a love for the game is i.portant in following the story. My guess is that without a keen understanding of the game, the listener may be bored with it. The book was highly technical when it comes to chess, but I found it enthralling.
