Historia
In keeping with the parable style, Patrick Lencioni begins by telling the fable of a woman who, as CEO of a struggling Silicon Valley firm, took control of a dysfunctional executive committee and helped its members succeed as a team. Story time over, Lencioni offers explicit instructions for overcoming the human behavioral tendencies that he says corrupt teams. Succinct yet sympathetic, this guide will be a boon for those struggling with the inherent difficulties of leading a group.

Great content; meandered just a bit. Voice is fantastic, though can be a little too monotone here and there. Great lessons. Wish I had the text for highlighting notes!

I'm so glad Jen read her own book to us, she was very conversational. I feel a bit empowered and it helped to get me out of the funk I'd been stuck in for too long.

Determined
Revisado: 08-18-19
This listen lays a foundation of understanding what mindset it takes to move forward to the life you're dreaming of. It doesn't give you advice on exactly what steps to take in order to get there, but I did find it inspiring, and even though my review comes 9 years after I first read it, some of the ideas still stick with me, so I'll have to give it 5 stars for the motivation it instilled in me. Although I still am far from Millionaire status... of course, that's no one's fault but my own.

Historia
You’ve heard of an Essex Girl or even a Chelsea Girl, but what about a Hounslow Girl? Definition of a Hounslow Girl: a young Muslim woman who wears hooped earrings with her headscarf and grapples with traditional values while hustling her way through urban London. The Diary of a Hounslow Girl is a bold and provocative one-person play, written and performed by Ambreen Razia. From the joys of traditional Pakistani weddings to fights on the night bus, this is a comic story of dreams, aspirations and coming of age, told through the eyes of a 16-year-old British Muslim girl.

Breathless
Revisado: 08-18-19
In the beginning, it was hard to get past the incessant heavy breathing - I get the picture, the girl was out of breath, but enough already. I was on the verge of turning it off because it became annoying. Thankfully, it didn't last much longer and I'm glad I hung in there because it was such a great and frank story with excellent mental visuals. It's a well-acted stage play and I'd really like to see it if it ever comes around. I definitely recommend this listen about the Hounslow girl. It tells the story of a young Muslim girl and gives great insight into the truth of her community versus the outward customs and beliefs. It helped bridge a gap for me since I know nothing about the Muslim religion. Of course, the play isn't really about religion. It's about a teenage girl who, as it turns out, is like almost every other teenage girl around the world, regardless of what religion she belongs to. Very enjoyable.

Embracing
Revisado: 08-18-19
Geared toward infancy through 10 years old, but don't let that stop you if your children are older. She even discusses how to work with the behavior of mentally disabled children, which I found especially useful as a parent of an older child with autism. I've heard some of the science-based facts previously, but it's not the basic rhetoric on why you're a bad parent for not doing it right the first time around. This book focuses on how to take care of yourself first so that you are able to be a better parent for your child/children. She even gives scripts and examples of how to address common struggles with your child, which I found extremely useful and began using right away. I wish I'd read it before I had my daughter, and kept it to refer to throughout her life. But it's never too late to turn things around and I'm committed to becoming a yell-free parent. This book gave me some great tools to use in order to meet my goal.

Submersing
Revisado: 08-18-19
I have been reading Patricia Cornwell since the early 90s and am so in love with her work, especially the Scarpetta novels, which this was. The storyline was gripping, as usual. The ending left me wanting more, as usual. While listening, I noticed the incredible detail that might seem insignificant as a whole to the actual storyline, which I know has always been in her writing but easily passed over with reading. Listening, though, really made me pause and wonder why she felt that was necessary to even mention. The color of her salt and pepper shakers don't matter to the story - that's my own made-up example - that was not actually in the book. But in hindsight, it paints a bigger picture of who Kay is as a human being and brings her story to life.
The narrator did not meet the expectation of Kay's voice that I have created in my mind over the last few decades. I imagined her to be more down to earth in her persona. The narrator gave Kay an unnecessary haughty tone that I don't believe would belong to this woman who is professional yet real. Kay doesn't lend herself to be above others as she seeks justice for those subjected to fatal crimes, nor in her interactions with the living. She might rightfully treat antagonists as the asses they are, but she isn't pompous. However, once I got past that impression, the narrator's overall performance was actually very good. She worked with the drama, she changed her dialects and accents to match her perception of the various characters seamlessly and I am impressed with her ability to build up the suspense. If you struggle with listening to her, just hang in there, you'll succumb for the sake of the story - which was riveting!

Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

Revisado: 08-18-19
This was peaceful journaling on the go. I really loved it. Florence Williams' soothing voice was filled with science-backed information as she spent 3 days walking and camping through the woods with a group of unrelated individuals. She listened to their storylines regarding what triggered their stress levels and the effect of how being in nature changed those feelings. I've been missing my own hikes through the woods and this listen helped me to envision my preferred element, which in turn helped me to feel better. It also motivated me to seek out some nature to get my own personal fill, even for just a half-hour. My review isn't doing this listen any justice, so you should really listen for yourself. Recommended for everyone, even the most steadfast skeptic.
