Historia
Women's lives are shaped by sexism and expectations. Disabled people's lives are shaped by ableism and a complete lack of expectations. But what happens when you're subjected to both sets of rules? This powerful, honest, hilarious, and furious memoir from journalist and advocate Lucy Webster looks at life at the intersection; the struggles, the joys, and the unseen realities of being a disabled woman.

Witty, intelligent, and insightful.
Revisado: 05-03-24
The View From Down Here is incredibly well written. Lucy Webster had me nodding my head, chuckling, and laughing as well as sharing her frustration and anger at being disabled and female in a world mainly built and by able bodied males.
I finished it in 24 hours and will be listening again and recommending it to friends and others in the accessibility and software development space. (I do web accessibility and speak and write about coding with accessibility as the default for both end users and fellow tech professionals. )
Listening has been like rolling into a cozy accessible pub listening to a riveting friend share her stories.
(I’m also a wheelchair user.)

Historia
Margot Cary has spent her life immersed in everything Lake Sackett is not. As an elite event planner, Margot's rubbed elbows with the cream of Chicago society and made elegance and glamour her business. She's riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she's blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start - and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation.

Historia
Caroline Wilton has no time for romance. She’s too busy running her family’s bar to even think about dating. She’s also one of Starfall Point’s resident witches, responsible for keeping the local ghost population in check. But even the most magical of witches can use a shoulder to lean on, which is what happens when Ben Hoult, the handsome doctor she never quite got over, walks back into her life. Ben is a single dad now, and as he and Caroline reconnect, they discover that they both have a knack for helping and protecting the people near and dear to them.

Really awesome book. The depth of the background story is wonderful. It’s kept me engaged - even on a bad migraine day. The character development is great.
I’ve found a new favourite author!

Poorly researched
Revisado: 03-13-20
(Note I have a B.A. in Social Anthropology, so I’ve done my own research - reading, listening, and asking- because I didn’t understand somethings.)
Both the first book and this one are very poor representations of Dominant submissive relationships in particular and bdsm in general. Read any decently well researched article (The Atlantic has a few good ones.)
They’re more a vanilla view of the culture than one written by someone who’s taken the time to learn (which doesn’t necessarily mean practice ... just listen and read and learn) about the culture and rules.
Not one mention of SSC -Safe Sane Consensual something that’s in almost every bdsm 101 ... and Christian gives her wine so she’ll talk honestly instead of guiding her and helping her. Not good Dom behaviour.
The good thing is the books’ popularity have gotten more people talking openly about many things surrounding sexuality, conscent, abuse, communication, honesty, and relationship dynamics.
Conversation, learning and communication are wonderful.
The narrator was ok - not a favourite, but didn’t stop me from listening.

Historia
Welcome to Hemlock Cove, where the town is magically rebranded - but real witches aren't necessarily welcome. That makes things hard for the Winchester witches - including local newspaper reporter Bay. She's got a persnickety family - wait until you met Aunt Tillie - and a penchant for stumbling across trouble.

Narrator needs to slow down
Revisado: 10-11-17
The narrator really needs to slow down. It sounds like someone is trying to speed read aloud. The story sounds interesting for urban fantasy, but I couldn’t get past the second chapter (15 minutes in).
I just finished the six Cosy Witch; audiobooks by Tess Lake (4-5/5). I was hoping to find another urban fantasy series to listen to at bedtime and around the house. But it’s not this one - nor any other read by this narrator. I’m returning this one and might buy the ebook sometime later.

Historia
The town of Ankh-Morpork is in big trouble, and the City Watch is desperate for a few good men to protect it. But all they've got are the dwarves Corporal Carrot and Lance-constable Cuddy; the troll Lance-constable Detritus; Lance-constable Angua, who is believed to be a woman; and, worst of all, Corporal Nobbs, who has been disqualified from the human race for shoving!

Great book, terrible sound quality

Yet another amusing and intelligent Discworld book in the City Watch storyline. The Narrator does a good job. It's a pity that half of the book sounds like a tape recording of a scratchy record.
