Story ok, narrator annoying.

Fantastic psychic thriller (best appreciated by adolescents IMO) read by one of the most annoying narrators made it difficult to listen to the end.

Entertaining and drawn out. But time well spent overall.

Like a car crash in slow motion this story takes its time building characters and then lets you ride along between past and present with a few key twists and turns. If you have the time you won’t be disappointed.

Historia
The Roman Republic was one of the most remarkable achievements in the history of civilization. After its founding in 509 BCE, the Romans refused to allow a single leader to seize control of the state and grab absolute power. The Roman commitment to cooperative government and peaceful transfers of power was unmatched in the history of the ancient world. But by the year 133 BCE, the republican system was unable to cope with the vast empire Rome now ruled.

Holy detailed book Batman!
Revisado: 11-06-19
I’m sure this account of the early Roman Republic is accurate but the names, places, events and 10 hours of it make this a mental endurance race. I appreciate history as much as the next guy but this was a little dry. I wish it related more to historical examples of similar events...but then again how many parallels can be drawn to Early Rome? I’m glad I listened and I’m glad it’s over.

An interesting read if you’re a young person. Maybe that’s the target audience. Nothing wrong with the premise or the characters, just a bit sophomoric. It did keep me company for 10 hours however.

Historia
At 23, Andrew Forsthoefel headed out the back door of his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, with a backpack, an audio recorder, his copies of Whitman and Rilke, and a sign that read "Walking to Listen". He had just graduated from Middlebury College and was ready to begin his adult life, but he didn't know how. So he decided to take a cross-country quest for guidance, one where everyone he met would be his guide. In the year that followed, he faced an Appalachian winter and a Mojave summer. He met beasts inside: fear, loneliness, doubt.

I was so pleasantly taken along on this 11 month ordeal that I didn’t want to stop listening. Questions we all ask of ourselves and of those around us, learning to navigate our self worth, limitations and insights, pains and pleasures of not only the walk but our trusts for and by other people and situations. Amazing journey both physically and mentally. I HIGHLY recommend this book. Thank you Andrew for the effort to walk, talk, learn, listen and share your experiences with us. This is one of the best books I’ve listened to in the 15 years I’ve been an Audible member.

Characters are constructed over time as is the story. A steady paced listen with just enough suspense to keep your mind busy trying to piece it together. Loved it.

In Northern Virginia, a secret agency named TOSA (Technical Operations Support Activity) has one mission: To track, find, and kill those so dangerous to the United States that they are on a short, very close-held document known as the Kill List. Now a new name has been added: A terrorist of frightening effectiveness called the Preacher, who radicalizes young Muslims living abroad to carry out assassinations. Unfortunately for him, one of his targets is a retired Marine general, whose son is TOSA’s top tracker of men. The Preacher has made it personal - and now the hunt is on...

Revisado: 02-27-18
Great story if you’re in grade school. Even for that audience it’s far fetched and somewhat childish. I was expecting a little more in depth and imaginative story. Hard to reconcile anything close to reality here. If you’ve not had much experience with better writing this will pass as sophomoric level sci-fi entertainment. Not much more.

Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

Long but telling.
Revisado: 04-07-16
I haven't read too many classics sad to say. Audible has made it available to me. I doze off sitting and reading. For this book especially I couldn't have experienced it otherwise.
So many human struggles here. Quite a few lessons we should already know but often fail to implement. The overall tone of "we in place of I" is powerful. It is a story of empathy. The story has many lows and few highs but it speaks directly to the tenacity of the human spirit. We all benefit from the trials of those before us. It made a mark on my soul.

Entertaining but predictable
Revisado: 04-25-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Boys or girls in their mid teens.
Would you ever listen to anything by David Baldacci again?
in a pinch
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
most of the time, yes
What character would you cut from The Target?
Jessica Reel's voice sounded at times like Sandy the Squirrel on Sponge Bob. Hard to take at all seriously given her explained talents as an espionage agent.
