Historia
For many outsiders, the word “ranching” conjures romantic images of riding on horseback through rolling grasslands while living and working against a backdrop of breathtaking mountain vistas. In this absorbing memoir of life in the Wyoming high country, Mary Budd Flitner offers a more authentic glimpse into the daily realities of ranch life - and what it takes to survive in the ranching world. Some of Flitner’s recollections are humorous and lighthearted. Others take a darker turn.

A New Appreciation
Revisado: 09-23-19
As a city dweller driving through Wyoming, I have experienced being stopped on the road for a herd of sheep to pass by. However, until I listened to this memoir of a lifetime of ranch life, I had almost no understanding of what I was seeing. I thoroughly enjoyed the memories shared by Mary Budd Flitner of her life as a rancher and as a woman. I gained an entirely different perspective and new appreciation of rural western life. I highly recommend this heartfelt and extremely informative book.

Worth Listening Again and Again
Revisado: 07-31-18
This is a beautiful translation of the Tao Te Ching that is beautifully read by someone who has an understanding of what she is reading. I have listened to several translations with different readers. I have also read the Tao in many forms. This one is outstanding and I will relisten frequently.

Historia
The Tao Te Ching has a long and complex textual history. Known versions and commentaries date back two millennia, including ancient bamboo, silk, and paper manuscripts discovered in the 20th century. The Tao Te Ching is a fundamental text for both philosophical and religious Taoism. The name Tao Teo Ching translates into English as The Book of the Way and of Virtue.

Impossible!!!
Revisado: 07-06-18
The first problem was being jarred by the reader's mispronunciation of the word 'Tao.'
The next problem was the reader read so quickly it was impossible to make sense of the script.
The next problem seems to be that the writer did not understand the Tao on anything but the most superficial level.
I found it unbearable to listen to and turned it off after less than 5 minutes.

Historia
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third.

Historia
Have others ever told you to "stop being so sensitive"? Have you ever looked at other people and wondered how they manage to get through the day without noticing the suffering going on all around them? Do you feel so emotionally delicate in comparison to your peers that you have tried to block out what is going on around you? You may have even resorted to coping mechanisms such as overeating, overworking, or smoking as a means of managing your emotions. If this description resonates with you, congratulations! You may well be an empath.

Very Useful Information
Revisado: 04-16-18
As both a psychotherapist and a highly sensitive person, I have been aware of my own emphatic abilities for many years. Yet in listening to this book I learned new and useful information.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who suspects that they have abilities to sense their environment in ways that seem different than most other people. The book gives useful descriptions of how empaths function and describes both the positive and negative aspects of functioning this way in the world. The book goes on to give suggestions about what empaths may need to learn to do to learn to take care of themselves in different situations.
Teaching these skills is beyond the scope of this book. It describes what they are and gives a few suggestions about where to find the needed resources.
I have found that Logosynthesis, as described in my book, "Letting It Go: Relieve Anxiety and Toxic Stress in Just a Few Minutes Using Only Words" has been very useful in helping me to manage my own tendencies to be overwhelmed by some ordinary environmental situations. Other Energy Therapies would be useful as well.

Incredibly Compassionate
Revisado: 02-17-17
Before I listened to this incredibly compassionate explanation of the complicated process of caregiving, I had only a sketchy understanding of what was involved. Now, after hearing the authors heartfelt telling of her own story of caregiving and of how her own work as a consultant to other caregivers evolved, my own understanding is much deeper. Her work glows with respect and compassion for everyone involved in the process.
I highly recommend this book both to caregivers, especially those new to the process, and to anyone who needs to support those caregivers in any way.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Historia
A Pea Coat Goes Home is the story of a 70-year-old coat that the author and his father shared throughout their lives. The coat will survive a world war, be worn during a marriage proposal and handed down to the author as he wears it in his own youth. The coat will occupy many closets as lives change until it is ultimately returned to the ship (now a museum) where its original owner served during World War II.

Low-key memoir
Revisado: 04-25-16
This book is a loving memoir of the authors father and his father's
service on the Lexington in World War II. It's very factualand the theme gets lost in the details. I must confess that I was interrupted after listening to the first third of the book and had to force myself to come back and finish it.

Little Known History Woven into Improbable Story
Revisado: 03-07-16
Well researched story of the horrific conditions orphaned and throw away children endured in the early 20th century folded into an engaging story of the similarities in the early lives of a very young and a very old woman. Listening to the story while driving cross-country made me completely ignore all of the discomfort of an otherwise very dull experience. If all history were taught this way many more people would know much more about our world.

Historia
Seventy years ago, Joe Rubinstein walked out of a Nazi concentration camp. Until now, his story has been hidden from the world. Shortly before dawn on a frigid morning in Radom, Poland, 21-year-old Joe answered a knock at the door of the cottage he shared with his widowed mother and siblings. German soldiers forced him onto a crowded open-air truck. Wearing only an undershirt and shorts, Joe was left on the truck with no protection from the cold. By the next morning, several around him would be dead. From there, things got worse for young Joe, much worse.

A Testimony to Being Truly Alive and so much more
Revisado: 03-07-16
Listening to this book is a deeply emotional experience. The title suggests the horror that is indeed rivetingly and painfully described, but it is horror book-ended by deep joy and appreciation of life. It is a privilege to hear passages in Joe Rubinstein’s own voice interspersed throughout the narrative. Rarely is a book such a testimony to the resilience of the human spirit.
