Difficult choices
Revisado: 08-17-20
Another amazing book from Vanessa Carnevale. Loved the realistic family and relationship dynamics. The question at the centre of the story was a heartbreaking one. I love how all the options were explored in the book. I finished reading in tears but felt the ending was perfect. The narrator was excellent and brought the story to life.

Find out how it began
Revisado: 03-11-17
I've read all the Uncharted series and it was a delight to go back in time to see how it all started. If you haven't read the Uncharted series, then this book is the perfect place to start, and if you have read them, them you'll love this chunk of Uncharted history following the ancestors as they settled The Land.
This would appeal to people who enjoy sweet, clean historical Christian adventure romance with a hint of magic. I listened to the audiobook. The narrator was fabulous and well matched to the story. I reviewed a complimentary copy.

Thirty-four-year-old Mimi Finnegan is the third of four daughters and in her eyes, by far, the most unremarkable. She has no singular accomplishment that can stand up to any of her sisters. And if that isn't enough, she's the only single sibling in her family. Mimi's sisters decide that it's time she gets serious about husband hunting, so they begin a campaign to find Mr. Right for her.

Laugh-out-loud
Revisado: 03-11-17
If you like over-the-top characters and laugh-out-loud chick-lit, then this is the book for you. I listened to the audiobook edition and the narrator nailed it. She was the perfect match to this story. Light and fun - a brilliant chunk of escapism.

Beach romance and family reunion
Revisado: 02-10-17
This book started out slowly but within a few chapters, I was caught up in the story. There was lots of fun romance as well as the rebuilding of family relationships. I enjoyed seeing the sisters grow and come to realise that there's more than one side to the story. I loved the gorgeous beach setting.
I listened to a review copy of the audiobook. The narrator was a great match to the book and was easy to listen too.

Perfectly matched narrator
Revisado: 01-19-17
Plan Bea is a wonderful exploration of a mother and daughter trying to rebuild a broken relationship. There were moments that made me laugh, moments that choked me up and moments I just wanted to slap someone.
The characters were well developed and I found Annabel likeable and relatable, as for her mother Bea..... see the last point in the previous sentence.
This is the second of Hilary's books I've read and I'm really looking forward to the next one (You big tease Hilary! Leave me hanging like that! Now hurry up and publish Plan Cee!)
**Edit**
I just reread this via audiobook in preparation for the sequel, Plan Cee. I loved the story just as much this time around, even knowing the twists in advance. The narrator is brilliant - capturing the characters perfectly, from a small innocent boy to the snobby grandmother Bea.

Fun amatuer mystery
Revisado: 12-29-16
The audiobook narrator was a perfect fit for this story. I enjoyed the cosy mystery/amateur detective/light and fun feel. It was refreshing to read a story that focussed on the mystery and didn't get complicated by a romance thread. I kept expecting it to turn romantic, which would have disappointed me as the heroine claimed to be happily married. Thankfully, she remained happily married to the end, though got herself caught up in all manner of problems on the way.

Summer Stevenson is an 11-year-old military kid who dreams of having a permanent home and swimming in the Olympics one day, just like her idol, Olympian Lia Neal. But those things seem out of reach as her parents, "the heroes", continually move the family from house to house like boxed-up toys.

Middle Grade Military Life
Revisado: 09-12-16
I read this middle grade fiction novel with the eyes of a mother, so found much of it touching, heart-wrenching and insightful. The issues of military children moving frequently has been on my mind a lot recently as I am a military spouse and our family is due to move at the end of the year, so this was a perfect time for me to pick this book up.
I loved that Summer was a mature 11-year-old, not a whiny brat or a kid that kept making bad choices. I enjoyed reading about the unique parts of her life - a garden full of hummingbirds (I've never seen a hummingbird) and her African-American/Japanese heritage. The desire to fit in is universal though, and I particularly related to that - as much now as well as when I was a child.
I listened to the audiobook, which I received free in exchange for an honest review. The narrator was a perfect match for this book, easy to listen to and a good match for a mature 11-year-old protagonist.

Writing and Life - one step at a time
Revisado: 09-12-16
I began my writing journey last year, fairly unprepared. I read a lot, and on a whim, decided I would have a go at writing the book that I want to read. Since then, I've been working my way through a pile of books and blogs full of writing tips. This is a book I've seen recommended several times by authors I admire, so I bought the audiobook.
I enjoyed the laid back, conversational style. It's not a dry list of rules, it's full of anecdotes and entertaining stories. Most of the advice matched up with what I've read elsewhere and it was good to have it cemented in my mind.
One step at a time.

Sweet NA
Revisado: 09-12-16
This is the third book in the Last Heartbeat series. It could be read as a stand alone, but you will recognise a few characters if you've read the first two books.
This is a sweet new adult romance, continuing the theme of organ transplant and organ donation. I enjoyed the story and seeing how it fit in with the first two books in the series.
I listened to the audiobook edition which I received free in exchange for an honest review. The narrator spoke clearly and at a good pace.
