Historia
Somewhere under the freezing Atlantic, a Soviet sub commander has just made a fateful decision. The Red October is heading west. The Americans want her. The Russians want her back. The chase for the highly advanced nuclear submarine is on - and there’s only one man who can find her... Brilliant CIA analyst Jack Ryan has little interest in fieldwork, but when covert photographs of Red October land on his desk, Ryan soon finds himself in the middle of a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek played by two world powers - a game that could end in all-out war.

Well read by Scott Brick. Enjoyed listening as much as I did when I read it years ago.

Historia
Amazon.com started off delivering books through the mail. But its visionary founder, Jeff Bezos, wasn't content with being a bookseller. He wanted Amazon to become the everything store, offering limitless selection and seductive convenience at disruptively low prices. To do so, he developed a corporate culture of relentless ambition and secrecy that's never been cracked. Until now.

Historia
Just about every human being knows how to listen to music, but what does it take to make music? Is musicality something we are born with? Or a skill that anyone can develop at any time? If you don't start piano at the age of six, is there any hope? Is skill learning best left to children or can anyone reinvent him-or herself at any time?

NOT a better way to learn guitar!
Revisado: 07-08-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book might be enjoyed more by a person seeking general information about learning.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The author's personal experiences about seeking to learn music were entertaining. But the book never really gets off the ground. It simply goes around and around about his seeking learning without telling you how to improve your guitar playing.
Would you be willing to try another one of Gary Marcus’s performances?
No.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I feel like I wasted my credit. I listen to detective mysteries or science fiction or a multitude of other choices for entertainment. What I wanted here was some tips on how to more effectively learn the guitar. This book provided neither to my satisfaction.

Where do they get these narrators?
Revisado: 05-27-08
I got this audio book because I thought the material would include some valuable life lessons in self improvement. What I got was a narration that was so bad that I, like another reviewer, also found his pronunciation to be inaccurate, careless, annoying, and non-grammatical. For example the word "read" pronounced "reed" when in context it should have been "red". Add to that the run-on reading with no logical emphasis and the inexplicable re-reading of sections as if the narrator walked away in the middle of a section and started again back at the beginning when he returned and you get one confusing read! (Pronounced "reed"). The fast, run-on reading also leaves one wondering if entire words or sections were skipped since in some instances it seems as though periods were disregarded. I want to get the printed version and compare it to the audio version to see if I missed anything! As for content, I got nothing out of the first chapter. One reviewer listens over and over again - I am willing to try this for the simple fact that I believe from other reviews I've read, (red), that the contents seem to be at least worth the try. Good luck with this. Other reviewers love it. I'm not giving up, but you should be warned.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: You may have thought the movie was scary, but this is pure Stephen King as it was meant to be experience – performed frighteningly well by Campbell Scott. First published in 1977, The Shining quickly became a benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, his loyal wife, and their uniquely gifted son slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the Overlook Hotel's past are revealed.

Great Companion to the Movie
Revisado: 04-20-08
Stephen King is certainly a master of what he does as a writer of pulp horror. This listen was riveting from beginning to the end. Although there is no argument that the book and the movie differ greatly, I found the book expanded much on the movie's storyline, (though of course, you have to ignore some obvious things that say, happened in the book and not the movie, or vice versa). I enjoyed visualizing the movie's scenes while listening to the book, and I enjoy the movie much more now that I understand some of the images and actions therein. Add to my overall satisfaction the excellent narration, and this is probably my favorite Audible listen. The narrator is so good that it doesn't take very long before you forget you are only listening to one person. Very enjoyable. Great storytelling.

Just not for me.
Revisado: 06-05-06
I was looking for concrete examples to help me find a compatible job. This book proposes visualization, affirmations, meditations, such as repeating, "the god in me sees the god in you", to help you to align your inner values with your outer goals "to move on to your vocational trajectory. Relax. Breathe in, breathe out. Feel your ability to receive all the things that you really want." (Quote, unquote).
I did not connect with it at all. I was looking for best ways to hunt for a job, directions to resources to determine your ideal job, etec. I got none of this from this book. I can't see how this book would help me find the perfect job. I'm not against meditation, this just wasn't what I was looking for.
