Historia
Mercer Mann, a popular writer from Camino Island, is back on the beach, marrying her boyfriend, Thomas, in a seaside ceremony. Bruce Cable, infamous owner of Bay Books, performs the wedding. Afterward, Bruce tells Mercer that he has stumbled upon an incredible story. Mercer desperately needs an idea for her next novel, and Bruce now has one. The true story is about Dark Isle, a sliver of a barrier island not far off the North Florida coast. It was settled by freed slaves three hundred years ago, and their descendants lived there until 1955, when the last one was forced to leave.

Love John, not so much Whoopee.
Revisado: 06-27-24
I have loved every book John Grisham had written. I can't listen to another word of this one.
Goldberg's reading is awful.
Don't buy this one, buy the book and read it. I plan to do that so I don't hate his writing, too.
It is painful to listen to.

Loved every word
Revisado: 08-05-20
I listen to books while I work. Sounds wonderful, but some books listen better than others. This was a departure from my normal listening and it was delightful. Not too heavy, not too light...just right. When I finish most books I go to the next. I have had to wait a few days and let this one slip away. I felt I knew the characters so well, I needed to let them fade out.
I miss them.
Wishing all books would be so good.

Very sad and could have been SO much better
Revisado: 07-02-20
There were stories like these, I am sure, in the early 1900's, but to make it so sad and what a horrible ending. My heart hurt for so many characters in this book.
I don't think I could recommend it to anyone that I liked.

I think she called this one in...
Revisado: 08-23-18
I normally don't even write a review, but this book was so awful I couldn't finish it and others should know.
I listen to books while I work in my studio. This book repeats phrases to describe people, which is really lazy writing. The over the top, over acting of the reader was hard enough to listen to, but when the same words are used I had to turn it off.
There was another book by the same author that I recently listened to and it was wonderful. So, she isn't very consistent.
I fear FEARED is not for me at all.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 04-18-17
Where does The Quiet Game rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I starting listening to this book on a fluke. My 'regular' authors were all caught up and I needed a book. This one had good reviews. It was very well read, the story line kept me interested and was a great character builder. I totally enjoyed this book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Penn. He is intelligent, caring and his character was built up by the author for a totally likable guy.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If not for it being 20 hours long, I would have. I listened to it while on a long travel day. With flight delays and storms, I was stuck in airports for a long time. This book was a life saver.
Any additional comments?
The reader makes a huge difference in a book. Someone that's voice matches the story is a real trick. This was a good match.

The reader is awful
Revisado: 04-18-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Another reader would have made a big difference. While listening I kept thinking of other ways he could have said the words instead of just listening to the words.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Dick Hill?
The first book had a good reader. I enjoyed that book and even bought it for a friend as a gift. Thinking that the second in the series would also be as good is why I bought this book. Not true. My favorite reader is Jim Dale, but he reads a different style of books. This reader might be better in another style as well. Something where he can do his over acting.
Any additional comments?
When the reader is this awful it is hard to listen to the actual book. I found myself trying to translate his words into a better voice instead of listening to the story. I am sure, with a different reader, this could have been a better book for me.
