Historia
College professor Johanna Marshall swore she would never fall in love again. She especially did not want to become involved with someone who has a reputation as an extreme womanizer...someone like Kelly Sambino. But on a hot summer night, Jo finds herself unable to resist Kelly. What follows is something Jo would like very much to quickly forget. Embarrassed after their night of passion, Jo hopes she will never have to see Kelly again. Then, when Fall classes begin, Jo finds herself face to face with the college's new Literature Professor - Kelly Sambino.

flat
Revisado: 04-29-25
The story and characters were rather flat, especially compared to the other of Gerri’s books I’ve listed to. More spicy scenes, but without the development of characters they too were kind of flat.

Historia
Deborah Harkness first introduced the world to Diana Bishop, an Oxford scholar and witch, and vampire geneticist Matthew de Clermont in A Discovery of Witches. Drawn to each other despite long-standing taboos, these two otherworldly beings found themselves at the center of a battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782. Since then, they have fallen in love, traveled to Elizabethan England, dissolved the Covenant between the three species, and awoken the dark powers within Diana’s family line.

Historia
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

A quick read

Space colonization, time travel, intrigue, an enjoyable few hours. Reminded me a bit, for reasons, of the TV series Travelers.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Came for the reader, stayed for the characters
Revisado: 09-05-23
I downloaded this as a freebie because I enjoyed RC Bray reading something else. The first few chapters I was a little skeptical but it’s a compelling story, well written, with fun characters and colorful language. I don’t often listen to fiction but I was impressed.

Historia
To be sure, neoliberalism has contributed to a number of alarming trends, not least of which has been a massive growth in income inequality. Yet as the eminent historian Gary Gerstle argues in The Rise and Fall of the Neoliberal Order, these indictments fail to reckon with the full contours of what neoliberalism was and why its worldview had such persuasive hold on both the right and the left for three decades.

Well organized, if we’ll trod
Revisado: 05-12-23
I was expecting this book to give new insights and new connections in the the bipartisan takeover by neoliberal ideology but anyone remotely well read in the subject is unlikely to find revelations here, which is disappointing because so many public figures had recommended it.

This is an easily digestible argument about what rights we have, what rights Republicans are trying to take away, and how to stop them. Mystal explains how to protect the rights of women and people of color instead of cowering to the absolutism of gun owners and bigots. He explains the legal way to stop everything from police brutality to political gerrymandering, just by changing a few judges and justices. He strips out all of the fancy jargon conservatives like to hide behind and lays bare the truth of their project to keep America forever tethered to its slaveholding past.

Fantastic performance!
Revisado: 09-26-22
If I could give this performance more than 5 stars I would. Mystal knocks it out of the park. His passion and humor grip you through your earbuds.
If you’re already a government and constitution nerd there’s not a whole lot new here (and the podcast for which he was legal editor ‘More Perfect’ will give anyone a head start) but he does an excellent job of laying out conservative straw men and knocking them down.
