Historia
When the neighbours in question are the proud empires of Klatch and Ankh-Morpork, those are going to be some pretty large garden tools indeed. Of course, no-one would dream of starting a war without a perfectly good reason...such as a 'strategic' piece of old rock in the middle of nowhere. It is after all every citizen's right to bear arms to defend their own. Even if it isn't technically their own. And even if they don't have much in the way of actual weaponry.

Inferior performance
Revisado: 08-13-23
I listened to most of these books from the Nigel Planner versions.
This version sucks. The characters are indistinguishable with the narration, and the tone is dire.
The performance dissolves much the wordplay that makes Pratchett so compelling.
Ugh, I wish audible would make the superior original performance available.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author Eric Flint has received glowing critical praise for his Ring of Fire alternate history series. In this first installment, a West Virginia town is transported from the year 2000 to 1631 Germany at the height of the Thirty Years’ War. Thrust into conflict, the town residents must also contend with moral issues such as who should be considered a citizen.

No real conclusion.
Revisado: 07-26-23
The first couple of novels followed some compelling characters in a crazy situation. First 2 books or ok-mostly a consistent narrative. I tried to follow after, the series splits too much , too many new narratives at the expense of whatever core it had.

Historia
When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it's the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run - and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry's tea leaves... But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss...

Revisiting an old favorite

I love these books but had never listened to the audio version. Audible tricked me with the first one free.
An amazing story read by a talented author. The voices of different characters are distinct but not jarring.

Historia
During the 229-year period from 1485 to 1714, England transformed itself from a minor feudal state into what has been called "the first modern society" and emerged as the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world. Those years hold a huge and captivating story. The English survived repeated epidemics and famines, one failed invasion and two successful ones, two civil wars, a series of violent religious reformations and counter-reformations, and confrontations with two of the most powerful monarchs on earth.

Great Narration

A very good overview of topic I might have otherwise found dull.
The author brought an interesting but fair perspective & left me with some inspiring quotes from the period.

Historia
Alex Racine, who led an elite group of humans and SADEs (self-ware digital entities), left the newly discovered planet of Celus-5 under difficult circumstances. Few of the Harakens with Alex thought there was little he could do to bring peace to the embroiled planet. From their viewpoint, the demands of the Celus-5 Swei Swee, the six-legged aliens of the ocean, and the Dischnya, the warring, doglike, intelligent creatures who inhabited the dry plains, were too convoluted to solve.

It was an ok story. Not much action or suspense. Lots of descriptions of production ratios for space ships. I wouldn’t pay for it, but if your looking for stuff in the plus section it’s ok.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Great short story, kinda heavy
Revisado: 09-06-20
I liked the story and didn’t think it was too intense. But it deals with death & the recent dead, so beware of that if it’s something you find to be a sensitive subject.

The new narrator sounds like Siri or an automated software program verbalizing text.
The NYT summary is a good summary of critical events of the day. It sounds better coming from a more human-sounding narrator.
