Historia
On August 5, 1942, giant pillars of dust rose over the Russian steppe, marking the advance of the 6th Army, an elite German combat unit dispatched by Hitler to capture the industrial city of Stalingrad and press on to the oil fields of Azerbaijan. The Germans were supremely confident; in three years, they had not suffered a single defeat. The Luftwaffe had already bombed the city into ruins. German soldiers hoped to complete their mission and be home in time for Christmas.

A classic historical book
Revisado: 09-20-16
Though historians (I myself am one) know that Vasily Zaitsev never really had a duel with a Major Koenig or any other highly trained assassin sent to kill him specifically, the book does document the horror that was the eastern front well. Only one chapter is devoted to the sniper, and it wasn't until maybe 20-30 years after this book was written that the account was discredited as Russian propaganda. The rest is still factual as far as I can tell and is still quite detailed and informative. I would definitely recommend this book.

Good but too much penis talk.
Revisado: 09-20-16
The author talks about his penis way, way too much. When you read that, imagine a number of times you imagine as too many. Double that. Then double that number.
But once you get over rolling your eyes every time you hear a mention of the characters junk, there is actually some pretty good main character development and the book does avoid a lot of the cliches associated with zombie books (I didn't know this was a zombie book when I got it, had I known I might have passed). The supporting characters are stale, but initially interesting. The plot does keep moving and the main character is never some super well prepared individual, which is refreshing. The author didn't live out some tired fantasy of being the only guy who is prepared and ready for the zombie apocalypse.
The voice acting is superb and that is what kept me listening. Michael Kramer brought a 1940s radio play attitude to the narration and no matter what other flaws the book may have, he makes up for them.

Historia
Former ranger Jack Smith watched an Army bio-warfare experiment go horribly wrong in an Afghan village in 2001, escaping only after he turned to a makeshift mace and bayonet to destroy the skulls of the infected creatures that bullets to the chest could not stop. With the traumatic experience seared into his mind, he earned his PhD, in ancient history and began developing medieval weapons-making skills after he left the service.

Great book, minor flaws.
Revisado: 08-31-16
This is an overall great book. The author indulges a bit over the top some times in his obsessions with halberds but if that doesn't bother you it is very well done. He has a few inaccuracies with military life which is weird because he claims to be a vet, but they're super minor in the grand scheme of things.
