Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Good story, eh narrators
Revisado: 12-14-23
Personally, I don’t like the narrator. The voice sounds squished, which I suppose could work into the character as I don’t think she was to be seen as an ethereal beauty. I also did not appreciate the overacting in the intense fights. It was downright exhausting. In every fight there in a notable downtime that is MEANT for the reader to regroup their emotions for the next onslaught. The narrator does not allow for this and instead bulls through without the needed downtime, Often screaming and gasping in parts that really aren’t that intense. They also switched the voices several times for several of the characters about halfway through the book. I also feel sometimes the dragons comment was playful yet the narrator made it sound irritated and downright angry. I didn’t much care for the last chapter narrator either. Their voice sounds very nasally. It sounds as though they are trying to be cool and aloof rather than using a comfortable voice. I’m glad it was only the last chapter.
I stayed through from the first book because I actually liked the story. I DID however get tired of Violets constant whining. Instead of a powerful lead, it was a whining school kid. And Xaden played into it. I felt the relationship was between a 40 year old and 15 year old most of the time and it really started to make me enjoy the book less and less as it went on.
The story aside from that was interesting but there just wasn’t enough of it. I wanted more of the story itself instead of the simpering love story that was being force-fed by an overactive and monotonous narration. I feel there needed to be more focus on the dragons and story rather than how badly the two characters wanted to jump each other. And even in times where it made NO SENSE for it to be. It stalled the story more than helped it.
I won’t be getting the third one when it comes out and I will file this away into audiobooks I wish I hadn’t bought and 25 hours I wish I had spent on something else. But my anger at the narration and story did make me walk faster when exercising so I guess that’s one plus for the book.

Love the story and narrator
Revisado: 11-08-23
So many changes in this book but I loved both! I have to admit, the first few chapters both with the story and narrator it was a shock and took some getting used to. I still can’t listen to this at night - the speakers inflection on her t’s and s’s are very harsh for nighttime relaxing. BUT this isn’t really a story you relax to. I loved the way she acted the parts out in voice, it reminded me of theatre work or expressive poems.
As far as the story… it WAS rather long winded. Well written but sometimes it did drag on and on. I found myself getting lost in my own thoughts only to snap back when something actually happened and have to rewind. But I do like the story itself, though it could have been condensed down instead of some of the same things repeated over and over again. It wasn’t too terribly noticeable as the story went on and more action happened.
And action DOES happen. The thing I like is that there is a definite story going on underneath all the romance. And at some point the romance becomes a sideline to the actual issues going on and I really like that - it brings a depth to the story while keeping the nice touches of romance here and there.
It’s a 9/10 if just for the wordiness at the beginning.

Female Voice ruins it
Revisado: 10-25-23
The story itself is cute, not in depth … just a cute story. There’s not much ‘desperation’ or ‘climax’ to the story. It’s all just a cute story about two seniors deciding where their lives go. It’s my first of the curvy girl series and I might try another one with higher reviews. Not sure it’s worth the $14 though. Definitely not with the same voice actors. The chapters were also short: 3-4 minutes maybe.
The female voice actor RUINS this. Her voice is nasally, and almost like an AI - there’s no inflection and very serious parts are ‘perky teenage’ just like every other chapter with her. No emotion at all. I found myself speeding through her chapters.
The male voice actor sounds every bit like a “surfer dude” but at least has some inflection. He was more tolerable and the ‘passion’ was at least felt. I’d do another audio book with him but NOT with same female.

Historia
When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Great book HORRIBLE narration
Revisado: 04-10-23
The book is good. My husband begged me to read it because I’m a fan of Anne Mcaffrey. The story itself is good and he’s a good story teller.
BUT the narrator, Gerard Doyle takes a good story and butchers it. Even if it was a male dragon the growling is very off-putting and very harsh to the ears. I regret buying the audible version 1000000% it’s ruined it. I let my husband listen to it and he was extremely disappointed because the movie damaged this book and now the narrator. This poor author has just been through it.
