Historia
Someone is stalking Audrey Young. And she has no idea why. Complicating matters is her landlord and new neighbor, Josiah Haven. She doesn’t usually go for the big, surly lumberjack type. But there’s something about that broody man. He intimidates her a little, but she kind of likes it. She could totally handle the mess that is her life, except the strange feeling of being watched is just the beginning. Next thing Audrey knows, she’s a target, and she doesn’t know who’s behind it or why. For Josiah Haven, none of that makes her his problem.

Started out strong
Revisado: 01-26-25
This book had potential but the connection between the two main characters seemed… Idk, not forced but not organic either. And I dislike when the second book in a series appears in the first just to set it up so I’ll bite and buy the second book. Not going to happen. That character is just not likable at all.

Funny, engaging
Revisado: 08-31-16
I read a review before purchasing this book (which I rarely do because books and narrators can be subjective) that said this was Stephanie Plum before she got boring and predictable or something like that. And damn, if that wasn't spot on. I didn't know if I'd like the narrator, at first, but then I found myself laughing out loud while listening.
Getting ready to start the second book now! Great series.

A good as it gets...
Revisado: 08-23-16
I loved everything about this book, but the narrator nailed it! Without him, I am not sure what my reaction to listening to a Leonard book would look like. I've read every book he's written and I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE his writing.
This was the first time I listened to a reading of one of Leonard's book and it was everything I hoped it would be. The narrator was stellar. Can't go wrong - as far as I am concerned.

Wish I knew then...
Revisado: 08-23-16
This was my first audio-book EVER. If you asked me then if I would continue, I would have gladly shouted NO. The book was a typical Nora Roberts book but the performance, for me, was terrible - especially the "romantic hero."
Based on the portrayal, I found him to be immature, like a petulant high school jock. Having read all of Roberts' books, I am sure my opinion of him would be different if I read the book instead of listening to it.

Historia
The Queensville Heritage Society is restoring the once-grand Dumpe Manor. While Dumpe relatives and society members use the occasion to dust off old grudges, Jaymie Leighton prefers to adorn the kitchen with authentic Depression-era furnishings. A collection of vintage wooden mallets found in the house is a perfect addition to her display, but one also offers a late-night intruder the perfect weapon to knock Jaymie unconscious before escaping.

Didn't see THAT coming...
Revisado: 08-23-16
I love this author, this series and the author's Merry Muffin Mystery series - which I blew through in record time and I don't normally read the same author consecutively.
Back to the Vintage Kitchen Mystery series: This is the fourth in the series and was anything but routine. The author had great twists I didn't see coming. Okay, I saw at least one of the twists but you'll need to figure our which one for yourself.
A great read with mostly-likable characters. The lead gets on my nerves from time-to-time but that's been true through the series. The support characters are fantastic - well defined with lovable quirky personalities.

Confusing
Revisado: 07-18-16
I had a hard time following this book and I really wanted to like it. I finally just marked it as finished and moved on to another book. The performance, for me, was monotone. Very disappointed. Wish I cold exchange it for another book.

From the award-winning author of Booked to Die and The Bookman's Wake, comes a riveting thriller that captures a lost American era. Like E.L. Doctorow in Billy Bathgate or Caleb Carr in The Alienist, John Dunning has written a magnificent story of mystery, murder, and revenge that brings to life another era.
