Historia
Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin are known to all; men like Morgan, Greene, and Wayne are less familiar. Yet the dreams of the politicians and theorists became real only because fighting men were willing to take on the grim, risky, brutal work of war. The soldiers of the American Revolution were a diverse lot: merchants and mechanics, farmers and fishermen, paragons and drunkards. Most were ardent amateurs.

Lacks continuity, choppy
Revisado: 12-03-23
Story Throws out 1000 sound bites. Lacks continuity as in a story or narrative. It’s like someone gathered factoids about the Revolution War and just joined them by writing them down. Sorry; but difficult to picture the era, the situation, the event.

Historia
The celebrated 2010 HBO miniseries The Pacific, winner of eight Emmy Awards, was based on two classic books about the War in the Pacific, Helmet for My Pillow and With The Old Breed. Audible Studios, in partnership with Playtone, the production company co-owned by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and creator of the award-winning HBO series Band of Brothers, John Adams, and The Pacific, as well as the HBO movie Game Change, has created new recordings of these memoirs, narrated by the stars of the miniseries.

Not good reader
Revisado: 11-27-23
Sorry to say that this new reader is not a good reader. His reading cadence is the exact same over and over and over. The previous reader was 100% better to listen to. The new young reader is horrible. The previous more mature reader was excellent. If you know anything about the story, it’s not the young person telling about his war experience. It’s the rather old Eugene Sledge recounting his experience from his memory and from his notes he disobeyed orders to not write down . But thankfully he did. This proper to have an older reader tell the story, it’s not Sledge talking when he returned from war. By his own words, he couldn’t talk about what he’d been through when he got back. So it’s entirely appropriate an older voice read it to the listener. But the new younger reader has such a repetitive cadence, after 10 minutes I had to stop listening.

Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista is a novel set in the not-too-distant future in the American Southwest, during a period of low-intensity civil war. The action takes place between Texas and California, but the story is mainly centered around New Mexico. Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista is a sequel to Enemies Foreign and Domestic, but it may be enjoyed on its own.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author and Pulitzer Prize finalist Arthur Herman pens this fascinating look at how two businessmen turned the U.S. into a military powerhouse during World War II. In 1940, FDR asked General Motors CEO William Knudsen to oversee the production of guns, tanks, and planes needed for the war. Meanwhile, industrialist Henry J. Kaiser presided over the building of “Liberty ships” - vessels that came to symbolize America’s great wartime output.

American history everyone should hear
Revisado: 03-29-23
The most interesting history story of the first half of the 20th century I have ever listened to. 100’s of characters, nonstop interesting stories of failures and successes. There is NOTHING to be amazed about in our present “computer tech age” that isn’t BLOWN AWAY by the accomplishments of these men and women who built modern industrial America! Freedom’s Forge is my favorite book of America of the time my Grandparents lived and were a part of this great positive energetic creative period of our great history.

Historia
In one of the most compelling combat narratives ever written, Staff Sergeant David Bellavia, an Army infantry platoon leader in Iraq, gives a teeth-rattling, first-hand account of 11 straight days of heavy house-to-house fighting during the climactic second battle of Fallujah. His actions in the firefight, which included killing five insurgents in hand-to-hand combat, earned Bellavia the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, and New York state's highest military honor, the Conspicuous Service Cross.

Historia
John Moses Browning was raised in what was at the time the “Wild West” of the Utah Country. His educational upbringing was both sparse and basic, but through the impetus of his father’s gun-making business, he would become the greatest mind of the arms industry’s modern age. Where Colt labored over one solitary concept that eventually led him to the modern repeating revolver, Browning’s instinct proved able to visualize concepts far above his formal training and follow them through to a number of diverse and functional weapons.

Close to horrible.
Revisado: 01-02-21
Both reader and story close to horrible considering the great topic. Gun making throughout the 18th, 19th & first half 20th century was one of the preeminent contributors to the industrial revolution, science and human rights. The great liberty of millions from serfdom could never have occurred without this technology. And John Browning was one of the geniuses. It may be difficult for young people to understand; but, gun making was the equivalent to computer companies today. With this topic certainly a better story could have been written. I’ve read more interesting assembly instructions for a child’s toy than this. And the narrator put about as much into presenting the story as a squeaky seized bearing who didn’t want to go another turn further. Either he had never heard of the great John Browning before or he has total disdain for firearms. The only good thing about this book and the horrible presentation, is at least there’s opportunity for a better author to do justice to this historical and interesting topic.

Historia
The first skirmishes are already being fought. The crisis America faces is between two incompatible visions of the future, and a nation sharply divided between them. Will we become this diverse beacon of tolerance where we forget our past and embrace socialism and political correctness? Or, will we stand for our traditional beliefs, values, liberty, and sovereign government as free citizens our Founders did?

Author Tom Kawczynski gives listener a thorough picture and lets listener think through this. It's purpose is not to 'tell' you what to do, it's purpose is to show the history and present day perspective to let reader listener decide. very good.

Historia
The former Confederate states have continually mythologized the South's defeat to the North, depicting the Civil War as unnecessary, or as a fight over states' Constitutional rights, or as a David v. Goliath struggle in which the North waged "total war" over an underdog South. In The Myth of the Lost Cause, historian Edward Bonekemper deconstructs this multi-faceted myth, revealing the truth about the war that nearly tore the nation apart 150 years ago.

Solid research, excellent
Revisado: 07-28-20
As my 'headline' for this review states, excellent research and solid supporting documents (I followed up on several, going to several sources, and author Edward H. Bonekemper III, presents true historical information). I REALLY liked the civil war battle and main player history; especially General Longstreet information - amazing. 99% of researched information in this book was new to me, that makes a VERY good read ! Good Listen ! ...ran parts of this Audible book over and over. never boring always more to learn from listening... thanks

Historia
This powerful, action-packed memoir puts us in the middle of the legendary fighting force known as the Screaming Eagles. Along the way, Donald R. Burgett, just 19 years old at the time of the battle, vividly captures some of the most horrific action of World War II. From point-blank tank assaults to hand-to-hand combat, Private Burgett and his cold, hungry, and wounded fellow paratroopers stood against an overwhelming enemy force - and won the battle that secured victory for the Allies in World War II.
