This book raises interesting questions about what you might be willing to do to stand up for your principles when doing so isn’t easy—or when it might cost you everything. It was engaging and covered the topic well while keeping the focus on how an independent woman could survive when the government became the enemy.

I’d read a nonfiction book about Francis Perkins, so I thought I knew her story, but this book brings her to life in an intimate, inspiring way.

This book kept me wondering how far the protagonist was going to go, and what she was going to find out if she made it into the inner sanctum of a secret society for women. Very enjoyable read, particularly if you like strong women.

I expected this book to be about steps people who are under or facing an autocracy can take. Instead, the book—written in April 2020—seems like more of a cautionary tale, outlining all of the ways in which the first Trump presidency skirted closer to autocracy.

This book started off as a fascinating literary novel about young girls at a home for unwed mothers in 1970. In fact it continued in that vein for so long that as I listened one day, I wondered if I’d been mistaken about the witchcraft part. But patience will be rewarded—I was on the edge of my seat for the remainder of the book, with NO idea what was going to happen or how it was going to end. Dark, mysterious—excellent!

Well-written, good narration. June slowly unravels the mystery of her life, which crosses timelines.

I loved this book so much I rearranged my life around listening to it and finished it in 3 days! I love a good sci fi book with a novel premise, and Partition: Critical Era is an excellent example! In the future, humans can get a “partition” that allows an “organic AI” to take over their job (and exercising!) for them overnight. The author explores free will, how we think about AI, and what it means to be human. It’s also fast-paced and kept me figuring out ways I could get in more listening time! Highly recommend!
