THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS SO KEEP READING AT YOUR OWN RISK

Point Of View(POV):
The POV jumps between Many characters but only for a very short time then back to the MC. Normally I hate it and won't even listen to a book if I know that there are more than 1-2 POV's but because the POV is very short when it's on other characters and only stays for a longer time at the MC i don't mind it as much.

What Is The Book About?
it's about an orphan named "Chase" who have been living in the streets since the age of 12 (now 18-20) he is a lieutenant in one of the empire's capital city gangs and for him to higher and eventually take over the gang he needs serious prison time so he kills some scumbag that no one would miss even all the evidence against him was all "lost/misplaces" by the police.

Then when he is about to be sentenced his dad that he has only seen once in his life shows up as the judge and sentences him to 10 years in the military in the Wolfhound fleet instead much to Chase's dismay.

The Wolfhounds is basically the Emperors private army and only he can command them

He arrives at Wolfhound base and gets into Cryosleep and was supposed to wake up in 3-6 months time instead when they wake up they discover that 10 years have passed.

Chase of course don’t care but many of the others do so while chase and the other “mechanics/engineers” is running around trying to fix the thousands of things broken or otherwise from the 10 years lack of maintenance while at the same time dealing with crew going insane worrying about their families and friends, The Command Staff/leaders comes up with a plan on what to do.

they arrive at (can’t remember the name and is to lazy to check) where they discover that 10 years ago the Emperor and most if not all of is family was killed and that Speaker Neil and his henchmen has taken over the empire, and made women in the military into sex slaves on ships and many, Many other things just as bad.

The Wolfhound Command staff comes up with the idea to select a random crew and make a “Fake” prince so that they have the legitimacy to keep looking after a “real” imperial family member still alive. And then when they find one, then give the “fake” a heroic death.

They ask the base AI to select someone from the crew and the AI knowing something they don’t but have been sworn to secrecy selects Chase as the “fake” prince.

BUT when they tell Chase that the judge that sentenced him was a real Imperial Prince and that they are going to pretend that Chase is his son so that they have an Imperial and can legitimate search for the “Real” imperial prince/princess in an is still alive. But what they don’t know is that Chase is ACTUALLY the son of the judge aka the Imperial prince.

Of course because Chase have lived on the Streets he don’t trust easy and don’t tell anyone this and commands the AI to not tell anyone since the AI’s first loyalty it to the Imperial Family first and the wolfhounds second and since Chase apparently have an inactive imperial interface that you can only get by being blood related to an Imperial the AI must obey him even though he repeatedly tries to persuade Chase to tell the truth throughout the book.

Now since Chase Maybe need to die and heroic death, of course they don’t tell him that but he is smart enough to figure that out himself, they send him to Mech school under the tutelage of (can’t remember her name and is to lazy to check) an baroness much to her displeasure having to teach an lowly orphan to become a Mech pilot.

We then follow Chase Training to become Mech pilot while also learning how to be an Imperial Prince and while the CO wants to tell him what to say and do Chase has other plans and does whatever he wants just as an Imperial Prince would do.

Now comes the hard part finding Replacement part to the tens of Thousand of broken things in the fleet and at the same time keep dodging Assassins that is after the 10 mil. credit bounty on Chases head.

While also keep stringing the Command Staff along and preventing them from finding out that he is ACTUALLY an “Real” Imperial Prince before Chase is ready and has gathered loyal allies he can trust to his side.

Romance?:
YES no explicit content but the MC quickly immediately falls in love with ******** and spends almost the rest of the book realizing that and so does she and I can't wait for book 2 so that i can watch their relationship blossom.

There may be some Spoilers in this review

I love this series, how you follow one of the few remaining competent Commanders in the Confederation Navy who hasn't bought his position, however when his promotion is due, the admiral blocks it and tries to discharge him. However, his dad, the previous grand admiral, made orders before he stepped down years ago to make sure his son became the new commodore of the Battleship division, when they would eventually try to kick him out of the navy.

You then follow the MC trying to repair the HUGE asteroid sized battleship in orbit with only 69 crew out of 5.000 and without the spare parts, materials and money the Battleship division should have received to maintain all 12 ships but haven't for the last 200-300 years.

S**T hits the fan the Locusts return and the MC and his Dad grabs everything they can before departing for battle with a ship that haven't been properly maintained for 300 years and only have about 5-10% of their weapons operational and a crew of cadets from the naval and marine academies still in training and somehow still kill Locusts ass.

Now to the not so good things
if the Author continued the same style in book 2+ this would be my absolute favorite series. However, in my opinion the Story/book has gone from a 5+ star to maybe 2-4 starts after he/they change the POV from only the MC to all the officers and the semi important people on the ship. So instead of the book moving fast and we get to see a lot of action like book 1 we have to read about the same battle about 5-6 times each time from another POV.

Now it takes about half a book just for the ship to leave orbit and maybe fight the Locusts, Since we now have to see/follow the preparations from Many different POV’s we have to see it from the captain/admirals POV, then the hacker/symbiote POV, then the Lawyers POV, then the Marines POV, then some of the random Officers on the ship or someone on the planet. POV

Before you buy this book you should probably know that this is about bisexual/homosexual MC, and while I couldn't finish the last 4 hours and jumped to the ending, almost all of the romance was Guy on guy action. So if you're like me and have nothing against them/it but don’t want to listen to it in an audiobook then you should probably skip this book.

About the story.
we follow an MC with Autism, who ran away from home because of how his family treated him, and the fact that his mother made a injection that he takes (don’t know how many times a year/month) that is extremely painful, but gives him the ability to move and fight like anyone else, just so he wouldn't embarrass her.

He moves to Black something something and over the next 5 years he fights against people/creatures who have been infected by the ghost fog, that makes them crazed killers with no remorse or mind of their own really. So if they died of hypothermia they would come back with the single thought, to kill people to get their coats so they can feel warmth, and then just move on to the next person wearing a coat.

He then receives letters from 2 of the 3 siblings about 3 months after their father/ the king's death to come home or else they would do things to make the lives of his friends very hard. He sees no other choice but to follow his brother who has shown up to take him home.

We then follows him stumbling into the maze called family and nobility, and the apparent Civil War that is about to begin he is of course angry, confused and at every turn/explanation
from his siblings he is Deceived and even after discovering the deception he continues to believe his siblings word again and again and continues being fooled by them.

then at every fight even if it's just a “Commoner” fighting with him in a bar he almost always loses the fight even though he has the magic/sciency injection that makes his body better and faster. plus he is suppose to have fought Ghost fog “Zombies'' for 5 years yet his brother who has never been in any real fight still easily beats him.

One Of The Best Military Sci-fi Series i have read

This Series is as the title says One Of The Best Military Sci-fi Series I have ever read,

You follow Mark Rizer, who is bored in his current life as he is studying to become an experimental researcher like his parents and brother, one day he walks around campus and sees a marine officer trying to recruit people to the marines. Rizer not wanting to become an old dusty campus professor completely shut off from life outside the university/college, jumps at the chance to become a marine office, unfortunately, he does not meet the requirement and instead take the advice of the marine officer and joins the marines as a normal soldier.

You follow Rizer through boot camp making both friends and enemies, then you follow him fighting and learning how it is to fight in reality and not just in textbooks and simulators, in his new platoon/company called Murder company doom squad,

You see him make the typical Newbie mistakes and follow him as he becomes one of the best soldiers in his Company most of the time you only follow Rizer but there are a few chapters that you follow someone else but the chapter only lasts 8-12 minutes and you can skip them without losing too much of the story/plot. I HATE books where you follow more than one person/MC especially in Military Sci-fi and as soon as I read a review mentioning several MCs or perspectives I instantly move away and look for another book,

However, in this Series, the few chapters that weren't from the MC did have their purpose and most of them were either close or somehow related to the MC, like Following General Hellar reacting to learning about the MC or his company's accomplishments, or in book 2 (SPOILER) as Rizer (Sergeant) leading Murder Company to a location to defend against unions soldiers you follow his Direct superior Leautenatn something, something back at HQ worrying about Rizer and his company and if he can get the required supplies and support from the general to better the chance of his soldiers surviving a unions assault.

the only Chapters with different POW that I skipped was the fleet Admiral Leading the fleet in orbit and some random female Fighter pilot who i thing will become a love interest in later books.

Another thing I like about this series is that the Alliance and the union lose soldiers at the same rate unlike many other books I have heard where the side the MC is one only loose about 30 soldiers when the enemy loses about 500 soldiers, And another thing that really makes this Series different from any other I have listened to, you never know who dies, it could be the MCs best friend, his love interest or just some random soldier on his squad or in his company you just don't know

the only real bad thing I have to say about this Audiobooks is the narration many times makes it sound like all the characters talk with a potato in their mouth and all the male soldiers except the MC sound like some brainless hunk of muscle. however, you get used to it fast and the Author have Changed Narrator for Book 2 and the new narrator is so much better and the Marines now sound like the killing machines they should be instead of the brainless hunk of muscles

if you like series like Sentenced to War, Frontlines, Drop Trooper, Devil Calls the Tune, Zone War, The Black Sheep of Soulan, Undying Mercenaries, Wayward Galaxy, or First Colony I can almost guarantee that you are going to Love

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

As the Headline said this is by far the best book in the series by far in my oppinion. Lasgol finally finishes his training, he get the two specialty that suits him best and isgord got what was coming for him. and it couldn't have ended in a better way in my oppinion. Lasgols love life takes a huge leap in the right direction. he gets the best possible familiar that he could get.

And now he has finally Become a Specialist Ranger and is headed for his first Mission, meaning him and his friends has/had to split up and for the first time he is alone and theres not a trustworthy ally in sight. Maybe now that he is alone and he needs to fight for himself and can't rely on his friends he will finally build up his trust and confidence in himself and his magic and dosen't see his magic as just a "Cheat" but instead a bonus and a way for him to become a much better ranger.

Oh and a strange new secret Organisation has set their sights on killing Lasgol, that even the "Mother specialist" and the elder instructors in the specialist camp is afrait of.

The only bad thing i have to say about this book is that as usual Camu dosen't mature at all he can telepathic speak better with Lasgol and he gets bigger but other than that there haven't really been any progress in the last (i don't know how long 1 ranger training period lasts) 6 year or if a ranger training is only half a year then 3 years. Camu is still this playful disobedient child that don't really listens to Lasgol exept when its really serious/dangerous, and of course Lasgol dosen't really try to train him at all even though he could easily do so when he was trained his new familiar.
