In today’s world, it can be difficult to envision a future that is successful, purposeful, prosperous, stable, meaningful and even lucrative. However, as Terri Savelle Foy shares in Imagine Big, we cannot allow what we see happening today to limit what we can imagine God doing for us supernaturally in our lives.

I love this book and audiobook because it focuses on God and has reminded me that He does continue to have plans for me, even though I am retired and probably in my seventh, eighth, or ninth inning of my earthly life. I will listen to it over and over and over again, especially if/when the devil gets on my back again!

Yes, I am a Dan fan and even more so after listening to this book!
Revisado: 09-17-23
Interestingly, at age 74 I am finally learning to look at my past "failures" all as lessons, and that is revolutionizing my life! I'm learning that I couldn't be here had I not been there; I couldn't appreciate this (good) had I not had that ("bad"). Thank you, Dan, for sharing your learning experiences with us!
And it's no surprise that I just love hearing anything I can about the Secret Service ever since I fell in love with an agent quite a long, long, time ago! Great experience, but I have learned that he was obviously not exactly what God had in mind for me. All is well. I am very blessed by my gifts of "learning." Thanks again, Dan!

Historia
Far more than a "business memoir", What Are the Odds? is a raw, authentic account by a man many thought would never rise above his serial, addiction-fueled failures. Mike's gripping narrative transports listeners from his small-town tavern with its colorful cast of "regulars" to Mexico and a drug deal gone awry. From Las Vegas casinos, where Mike won and lost fortunes as a professional gambler, to a jail-cell beatdown. From failed rehabs to his 20-year marriage, an ideal union decimated by addiction. And finally, to the redemption of the most shameful moment of his life.

Revisado: 06-12-22
In all honesty, I thought the stories of drama, crummy decisions, unbelievable near misses, screwups, and misadventures would never end. I kept asking myself when, oh WHEN is he going to catch on? Being very familiar with the disease of addiction, however, I knew that every single step of the way was important in his eventual recovery.
As it turned out, all the misadventures and drama made his eventual recovery and success all the more miracoand wonderful. Thank you, Mike, for this very inspirational memoir. For sure, “With God all things AREpossible!”

Interesting but not what I had in mind
Revisado: 10-01-19
This book was interesting and well-read. However, I had hoped for a bit more guidance about how to deal with the dopamine abnormalities involved in addiction. It was somewhat repetitive, but still of interest.

Historia
Since the introduction of dietary guidelines calling for reduced fat intake in the 1970s, a strange phenomenon has occurred: Americans have steadily, inexorably become heavier, less healthy, and more prone to diabetes than ever before. After putting more than two thousand of his at-risk patients on a wheat-free regimen and seeing extraordinary results, cardiologist William Davis has come to the disturbing conclusion that it is not fat, not sugar, not our sedentary lifestyle that is causing America’s obesity epidemic—it is wheat.

Very interesting premise - and lots of proof!
Revisado: 07-23-12
I have been suffering from the dreaded "wheat belly," which returned after I "fell off the wagon" on my sugar-free, wheat-free, flour-free, caffeine-free food plan. I can testify to the fact that when I was "wheatless," I easily lost weight (and the belly) despite eating TONS of food (i.e., lean protein, vegetables, vegetables, vegetables, and very complex starches).
When I returned to my "normal" diet (of carbs, carbs, refined carbs & more refined carbs) sure enough, back came all the things I don't want. I can DEFINITELY attest to the addictive and morphine-like effect that sugar, flour, & wheat have on me. Once I start eating these things, I eat them till I pass out or run out.
The info in here makes sense to me from a scientific standpoint, and the doctor's many accounts of patient improvements really impressed me. Even if one is not sure about the effects of wheat on their body, there is nothing that I can see to lose (not eating wheat CAN'T make you sick) and only better health to be gained by following the plan he outlines. Being wheat-free sure worked for me! I am happy to say I am back on my healthy food plan and feel much better!
I must say I was a little tired of all the molecular details, but to a scientist I suppose they would have more meaning. I would have been happy with a simple "wheat has been genetically altered to increase yield and is not the same wheat we were eating in the 1950's when our moms were thin and nobody was going to the gym 6 days a week just trying to keep from getting worse."

Inspiring listen during difficult emotional times
Revisado: 03-20-12
I am glad a previous reviewer suggested skipping the intro/prologue. I went straight to the story and found it very interesting. Yes, there was a fair amount of excess material, but it was all relevant. The tale of the boy's experience is reassuring and inspirational, especially in the context of my mom's lengthy and painful illness.

I also purchased the book but have not had time to read it, so I am glad I could listen as I spend hours in my car these days. It is always inspiring to me to hear real-life stories about regular people just like me who have had an idea, persisted, persisted, persisted, and then been greatly rewarded (emotionally AND financially) for their efforts.
It's a good listen, and I enjoyed Donny's enthusiasm as he narrated.
