Historia
A British lady, Lady Emma Wells-Finch, the oh-so-proper headmistress of England's St. Gertrude's School for Girls, is a woman on a mission - she has two weeks to lose her reputation. Arriving in Texas with skirts flying, umbrella pointing, and beautiful mouth issuing orders, she knows only one thing will save her from losing everything she holds dear: complete and utter disgrace! A Texas rascal, world-famous playboy-athlete Kenny Traveler has kicked-up his boot heels one too many times, and now he's suspended from the sport he loves.

Enjoyable Listening
Revisado: 07-17-24
Lady Emma’s accent, the lovely southern drawls and Texan twangs, as well as a believable male voice, made this a pleasurable auditory experience.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Experience a Gamut of Emotions
Revisado: 10-06-22
I found this book to be funny, painful, relevant, thoughtful and just plain GOOD. I never quite knew what would happen next. And the reason I rated it so high? I couldn’t stop listening. I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for unusual and deep characters, a great storyline, and a feel good experience.

Good Book but Winced at Audible
Revisado: 08-12-11
I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips. She's one of my favorite and I especially love the witty and fun characters she produces! I only wish I had read this book instead of listening to it. The low, southern accented voice of the hero just made me wince so much I had a hard time even liking him. And being read by a female voice, I think I'd rather she 'played it straight' and just read in a normal voice. My imagination could have taken over. Our heroine's British accent was nice enough, but it seemed that all I could do when listening was try to block out the voice and try to 'hear' the story. Does that make sense? Anyway - next time I'll look for the STAR reviews for the audible version, which can be quite different from the paper version. And unless the reader is REALLY good at voices (like the wonderful ones in THE HELP), I would suggest they just read, not try to act.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

As Good as Air Conditioning
Revisado: 07-29-11
Reading "The Help" is rather laborious and makes you begin to sweat. It's so difficult to get into a natural ebb and flow with the conversations and the dialects. LISTENING to it is like sitting under that new air conditioner in Skeeter's home......ahhhh....it's cool and sublime! The best book audible book ever!
