Flat characters and repetitive
Revisado: 04-05-21
I love Joel Leslie as a narrator. Honestly that's probably the only reason I made it so far in the book. The characters are boring. Everything is spelled out for you plot wise. The sex scenes use the exact same sentence and are just awkward. I wanted to like it, but just couldn't.

Historia
With extraordinary access to the West Wing, Michael Wolff reveals what happened behind-the-scenes in the first nine months of the most controversial presidency of our time in Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. Since Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, the country—and the world—has witnessed a stormy, outrageous, and absolutely mesmerizing presidential term that reflects the volatility and fierceness of the man elected Commander-in-Chief.

Chilling, but not at all unexpected.
Revisado: 01-08-18
The first of what will probably be a steady stream of books about the dysfunctional Trump White House. It is evident that nearly everyone involved with Trump seems to be in a constant que to leak information about their competing cliques in amatur attempts to promote their own interests. A facinating read no matter how you feel about the President or those around him.

Historia
Although T. E. Lawrence, commonly known as "Lawrence of Arabia’, died in 1935, the story of his life has captured the imagination of succeeding generations. Seven Pillars of Wisdom is a monumental work in which he chronicles his role in leading the Arab Revolt against the Turks during the First World War. A reluctant leader, and wracked by guilt at the duplicity of the British, Lawrence nevertheless threw himself into his role, suffering the blistering desert conditions and masterminding military campaigns which culminated in the triumphant march of the Arabs into Damascus.

A wonderful narrative of this amazing book.
Revisado: 01-07-18
I first read this book some 40 years ago. I had already become an amature history buff by age 20. When I saw it available on Audible, I decided it was time for a second go.
The narrator of this version is splendid, keeping a rhythmic pace that keeps you from wanting to stop listening. Between that, the poetic nature of the the writing and 40+ years of gaining a little knowledge and, I hope, wisdom along the way, I was carried into the Arabian deserts and I could see the land, people and personalities in ways the aurthor intended them to be seen. I missed much of that 40 years ago and I am glad I found and listened to this particular audio production of T E Lawrence's timeless masterpiece.

A very good account of events leading up to 9-11
Revisado: 11-07-17
This is not a pro CIA nor anti government book. It is a clear minded and well written book that reveals a policy debate that lost sight of the
subject being debated due to poorly informed decision makers, rivalries between power entities and the ingrained power brokers within the government. It is about the powerful and influential groups within the government who chose to battle amongst each other for power and money rather than for the American people they were sworn to protect.
One must wonder how much worse it is now since covert operations are carried out in complete secrecy with little or no public knowledge or oversight.
Time will tell I suppose.

Historia
On a sunny morning in May 1939, a phalanx of 867 women - housewives, doctors, opera singers, politicians, prostitutes - was marched through the woods 50 miles north of Berlin, driven on past a shining lake, then herded in through giant gates. Whipping and kicking them were scores of German women guards. Their destination was Ravensbrück, a concentration camp designed specifically for women by Heinrich Himmler, prime architect of the Holocaust.

A tale of NAZI horror.
Revisado: 10-09-17
Told in a way that puts you in the death camp and in the heads of the women who suffered and died there. NAZI evil laid bare. Even after 75 years, the whole story of NAZI atrocities has yet to be told. This book fills in another little part of the story and is another warning that we must never fail to oppose those who would recreate a NAZI type vicious and deadly regime no matter where it's ugly head rises from the sewers.

A people's history of the Soviet Union.
Revisado: 09-15-17
I've been reading historical and biographical books on the Soviet Union since I became aware that there was such a thing as history, more than 45 years ago. Nothing I have ever read comes close to painting the day to day struggle of the Soviet people to not only survive but to avoid being exterminated or sent to dissappear in the Gulag.
Disturbingly, the author points out unmistakable simalarities in Western countries that while not as extreme as in the Soviet world, nevertheless destroyed the lives of hundreds of thousands of "free" and completely innocent people. A tale that should never cease to be told and most importantly, remembered.

Using portraits of America’s flawed policy makers and accounts of the forces that drove them, The Best and the Brightest reckons magnificently with the most important abiding question of our country’s recent history: Why did America become mired in Vietnam, and why did we lose? As the definitive single-volume answer to that question, this enthralling book has never been superseded. It is an American classic.
