Ask the question
Revisado: 04-11-25
Great ideas about what information to get from prospective clients and good ways to gather that information. Listening to this showed me I’m going to much chit chat and not asking what I know I should. Thank you.

Historia
In this groundbreaking treatise, Palantir co-founder and CEO Alexander C. Karp and Nicholas W. Zamiska offer a searing critique of our collective abandonment of ambition, arguing that in order for the U.S. and its allies to retain their global edge—and preserve the freedoms we take for granted—the software industry must renew its commitment to addressing our most urgent challenges, including the new arms race of artificial intelligence. The government, in turn, must embrace the most effective features of the engineering mindset that has propelled Silicon Valley’s success.

Silicon Valley Lost its Way
Revisado: 02-26-25
Fascinating thought piece lamenting the focus of our greatest tech minds on solving little commercial problems while refusing to support America’s military - whose success is the foundation of Silicon Valley itself and whose continued success is a necessary condition for America’s future including the future of that part of America just south of San Francisco. Thought provoking book, a good contribution to our collective exploration of where we go next.

All empires come to an end
Revisado: 02-13-25
Normal humans don’t think in big cycles. Ray Dalio does, and when you listen to this book you will too and you’ll recognize that no empire lasts forever. The decline of America is already happening, the fall is just a question of when not if. That’s a new way of thinking for me.

Historia
In a world of self-driving cars and big data, smart algorithms and Siri, we know that artificial intelligence is getting smarter every day. Though all these nifty devices and programs might make our lives easier, they're also well on their way to making "good" jobs obsolete. A computer winning Jeopardy might seem like a trivial, if impressive, feat, but the same technology is making paralegals redundant as it undertakes electronic discovery, and is soon to do the same for radiologists.

Universal Income Needed Soon?
Revisado: 02-02-25
I listened to this book in the weeks surrounding DeepSeek’s Sputnik moment, unnerving Americans comfortable in their lead over new Cold War rival China. That was over ten years after this book was released and many of its predictions are here or likely near, including a potentially massive disruption to white collar jobs like my own - corporate lawyer. The author says we need universal income. Andrew Yang ran for president in 2020 saying the same. I recommend listening to this title - lots to think on. I’d love it if the author wrote a sequel or an update version with data from the decade plus following it release.

Freedom to Choose
Revisado: 07-06-24
I appreciated the author’s acknowledgment that distancing self from thoughts and emotions doesn’t mean giving up goals or aspirations, but simply means opening space between input and output, giving us the freedom to choose our response rather than being controlled by old patterns of behavior.
