Historia
In Far-Right Vanguard, John Huntington shows how, for almost a century, the far right has forced so-called "respectable" conservatives to grapple with their concerns, thereby intensifying right-wing thought and forecasting the trajectory of American politics. Ultraconservatives of the 20th century were the vanguard of modern conservatism as it exists in the Republican Party of today.

A fascinating story and an important framework
Revisado: 04-07-25
Dr. Huntington provides a valuable and well told narrative of the far-right’s takeover of the conservative project. He notes that far from a recent event, the seeds were planted long ago as the far-right had always shaped American conservatism, even if it sometimes seemed to have been side-lined.
More important, however, is his offering of the framework of seeing such men as Joseph McCarthy as “far-right translators” who made palatable the conspiracy theories and destructive orientations of the far-right right. It helps to demonstrate how and why the far-right maintained its attachment to the broader Conservative movement.

Historia
As early as 1941, Allied victory in World War II seemed all but assured. How and why, then, did the Germans prolong the barbaric conflict for three and a half more years? In The German War, acclaimed historian Nicholas Stargardt draws on an extraordinary range of primary source materials - personal diaries, court records, and military correspondence - to answer this question. He offers an unprecedented portrait of wartime Germany, bringing the hopes and expectations of the German people to vivid life.

Absolute Masterpiece

Hands down best work of history for understanding the relationship of the war to Nazism, the Holocaust, and the German people.

Historia
The New World of the 18th century was dotted with failed colonies, and New South Wales nearly joined them. The motley crew of unruly marines and bedraggled convicts who arrived at Botany Bay in 1788 in leaky boats nearly starved to death. They could easily have been murdered by hostile locals, been overwhelmed by an attack from French or Spanish expeditions or been brought undone by the Castle Hill uprising of 1804. Yet through fortunate decisions, a few remarkably good leaders and, most of all, good luck, Sydney survived and thrived.

Good overview of early Australian history. Appreciated the eye to all groups and not just the elite.
