Overall - a captivating read!

Cons: I didn’t like the long pauses between chapters. The story seemed to move slowly at times with spurts fast paced action. The demons morphing into tangible flesh seemed a bit implausible - though that may be explained in the rest of the series.

Pros: Great world building. The characters were likable; I found myself enjoying their growing up stages, finding themselves and how they rivaled in who they became. Despite the (sometimes) slow pace - the reader skillfully held my attention and I found it hard to put down when I should have been sleeping!

I love the first book, but didn’t like the relationship between Violet and her mother. The second book explained that relationship a bit more and made more sense to me. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the series, can’t wait for the Prime TV series to air and for the third book.

Absolutely amazing!

Loved every minute of this story! It’s been a long time since a book has kept me awake until 5am because I just couldn’t put it down! Would like to see the author explore the relationship between Violet and her mother and bit more. This part of the story didn’t make much sense to me. Why would a mother be so hateful towards her daughter? Perhaps this will be addressed in the second book(s).

Reference for this review: I usually listen to around a hundred books a year. Favorite author - Brandon Sanderson.

Positive: Stina Nielsen was an excellent narrator of the Ash and Blood series. I would be interested in listening to other books narrated by her.

Negative: The writing style seems YA, but the sex makes it an adult series. The premise for the series was actually pretty creative. The story could have stood on its own two legs without such an extreme amount of sex! It’s like finding a hair in your food at a restaurant - the sex just spoiled the whole story.
