Historia
Something dark and evil has awakened.... Evie O'Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City - and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It's 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult. Evie worries her uncle will discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far.

A Hidden Treasure
Revisado: 09-13-21
This was such a refreshing read. I am surprised there is not more hype surrounding this book. I enjoyed the diversity in characters and Libba Bray does an awesome job of submerging you in the world of the 20's. I appreciate the research she did in order to fill out the world well. Not to mention the plot was fun, and I hope it continues to grow well in the series.
The Narrator was fantastic, I did a double take at one point to check if it was really one narrator. because her characters were so distinct and fully developed.
Great read all around.

Very pleasantly surprised!
Revisado: 09-01-21
I did not go into this book with any expectations and I had no idea the plot, so I loved being pulled along by the story. These two authors are brilliant together. I enjoyed every character and they managed to write a YA without falling into young writing.
The narration cast and sound design was awesome and helped imerge me in the story. Can't wait for the rest of the series!

Good Break down of habits
Revisado: 08-24-21
James Clear does a good job of very clearly breaking down the life cycle of habits. Although it may all seem like common sense he put things in a perspective that you may not have considered before. He also has some good examples and exercises that I am looking forward to trying.

In fifth grade my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed. It didn't take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever. For the next seven years, it was us. She's the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

This Book = Lost Sleep
Revisado: 07-01-21
I tore through this book and was hooked from the beginning. I enjoyed the characters and she Penelope does a good job of not falling into every single stereotype that she could have. I liked the steam. There is definitely a strong alpha male/possessiveness in the book, but it wasn't overbearing. I liked how it ended.
I liked the male narration he felt like the character, the female narration fell a bit flat for me but was still good overall.

Fell a bit short for me
Revisado: 07-01-21
Although it was a decent book I ended up losing interest by the end. I will likely still read the third book because I am interested in the direction that Jennifer will take it, but I enjoyed the first book more.
Lauren Fortgang was good, I have listened to many of her books and I am very comfortable with her style of reading.

Enjoyable refreshing read
Revisado: 06-16-21
*Maybe Minor Spoilers* I have always loved dystopian style books and this had such a fun concept. I enjoyed the setting and 80's style yet futuristic theme of the environment. The characters were good and I enjoyed the sweet romance. Not sure where the second book will go from here because it was pretty wrapped up.
Narration was good, and fit the characters well.

Good Writing, okay plot
Revisado: 06-11-21
Although I liked the writing, it was just missing a little energy for me in the plot. I loved Jensen's other series The Bridge Kingdom, but this one fell a bit short for me. I wouldn't be opposed to finishing the series, but I it is not on my current list.
The narrations were good.

A solid fun read

I enjoyed this book and some of its creativity. Overall it's a fun YA read and I would like to see where the story goods.
Good Narration with distinction between voices. The male Narrator had some very nice character voices for the other males.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Well written, just a bit slow for me
Revisado: 06-01-21
Jemisin has fantastic writing throughout the book and good characters with depth. The story line was just a bit slow moving for my taste. if you like epic fantasy though I am sure this is right up your alley.
