Historia
Former poetry professor Jodi Luna hasn’t quite adjusted to life as a game warden. Her boss thinks she’s better with animals than humans, and the man she’s seeing wants a real relationship. Still reeling from her husband’s death, Jodi has to admit that she keeps people at a distance.

Good book. Recommended.
Revisado: 05-01-24
Jodi needs to be waaay more strict with her daughter. She let her off easy for firing the gun when Jodi told her not to. Not to mention how rude Mila is to her, and Jodi lets her get away with it. That was frustrating me.

Historia
When she fell asleep, the world was doomed. When she awoke, it was dead. In the wake of a fever that decimated the earth's population - killing women and children and making childbirth deadly for the mother and infant - the midwife must pick her way through the bones of the world she once knew to find her place in this dangerous new one. Gone are the pillars of civilization. All that remains is power - and the strong who possess it.

Not misandry
Revisado: 11-27-23
Keep seeing so many comments about misandry - don’t understand how people can be blind to the dark side of human nature, especially after the fall of social structure.
Right now…. right now, we have rape, gang rape, sex slavery, human trafficking, paedophilia, etc. in our so-called civilized world. Women have always been owned, commodity. What do you think human behaviour would be like without laws? I think folks should go read Lord of the Flies to see how thin the line is between civilized and primal.
This was a good book. Story was good, narration was great. Glad to see Jodie got some gumption at last. I wonder sometimes if humans are worth saving….. still haven’t decided.

Historia
One drop of blood for a chance at a multimillion-dollar windfall. Is it a philanthropic gesture from a billionaire widow? Some suspect a darker motive behind the DNA lottery—one tied to the eighteen-year-old mystery of an infant’s unidentified remains that mars the history of idyllic Rosemary Hills, Iowa. Right after the blood lottery is announced, three local women fall under suspicion of knowing something about that night, and their carefully kept secrets threaten to spill out too.

Great story
Revisado: 11-07-23
Loved this. Was racing near the end to see if I could figure out the mystery before it was revealed - my theory was way off. At first I thought that Violet was actually Alex’, and Maude raised her to avoid family shame. But then I thought…. Ah never mind.
The characters were believable and distinct, and Henry…. that was a great twist.
Book recommended. Would definitely read this author again.

Historia
Med school dropout Harlan Winter returns to his impoverished West Virginia hometown, where the law is scarce, arsonists are turning everything to ash, and his family’s turbulent history lingers. All he wants is to keep the peace in a community cowering from the Lighthouse, a local cult preying on people’s fears. Harlan’s own fears, too, when he’s hired to play detective and find a young couple gone missing.

Historia
History happens all around you. And, occasionally, to you. I could have been a bomb-disposal expert, or a volunteer for the Mars mission, or a firefighter, something safe and sensible. But, no, I had to be an historian. It began well. A successful assignment to 17th century Cambridge to meet Isaac Newton, and another to witness the historic events at The Gates of Grief. So far so good.

Wonderful
Revisado: 07-18-23
This was going to be the last St. Mary’s I was going to read because WHY WOULD YOU KILL HIM!?! A strongly worded letter was in my outbox to Ms. Taylor until……. whew. My heart started to beat again. And yes, I cried.
This is one of the best series I’ve come across - and I read A LOT. The narrator is fabulous, the dry humour doubles me over sometimes (and sometimes I just giggle), and yes, I confuse myself with the vagaries and paradoxes of time travel.
I will happily put this on the shelf in an honorary position next to my Terry Pratchetts.

Excellent storyline, excellent narration, 3D characters. Not slaves, but the lack of complete agency grew more disturbing as the book progressed. The proxies were almost a physically independent limb of the primes. Not slaves, because they loved, but how real is love if it is programmed into you?

Historia
In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob’s Ladder island. Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting. The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. And now two agents have arrived on Jacob’s Ladder in search of someone—or something—they refuse to identify. Although an air of menace hangs over these men, an infinitely greater threat has arrived, one so strange even the island animals are in a state of high alarm.

Revisado: 04-14-23
I’ve seen the reviews that said that this book was slow, and I wonder if they read the same book I did.
This book was brilliant and focused and the narrator was excellent. I love the quotes and appreciate reading that gave more than a story, but a chance for a bit of philosophical musing.
Highly recommended.

Another excellent presentation by both author and narrator. So many times I laughed like a crazy person while listening….. 😁😁😁😁 especially the line about ‘why would I bark if I had a dog to do it for me?’ (Paraphrasing, of course). That was comedy gold.
Right. So. When’s the next book coming out?

It’s still not clear to me who killed Jang Jisoo…. Is it a case of repression of memory?
Hettie is a dangerous, dangerous woman - talk about playing the long game. But she is a victim of awful circumstances, and her resilience is amazing.
Lee Hanjo seems so clueless and self-absorbed….
