and get this book. The content is great, very helpful. The narrator could be a little more animated but he's passable. It's a good solid book with good solid advice.

A better listen than a read
Revisado: 08-05-06
I've had this book for years but could not get past the first several pages. I tried it as an audio book with much more success. I truly appreciate this book and the lessons within. It's a good read, I reccommend it.

No wonder it's so hard to lose weight, our bodies are designed to keep weight on at all costs; it's a matter of survival. It's embedded in our DNA. Our diet has changed dramatically over the past ten thousand years, but our genetic blueprint has not, our bodies are not designed to process the types of food we are fed today.

Revisado: 08-05-06
I liked this book but I wish there were more resources for how to employ the advice given in the book. The author often says "consult your doctor" but truth is, I think my doctor is not quite cutting edge to know about this stuff yet.

That actually wasn't so funny
Revisado: 08-05-06
Ellen needs an audience or you need to read this book to yourself. This book is written and delivered like a stand up act but it's got no energy because there is no audience. This book is one of those books you need to read, not have read to you.

I'm terrified of aliens
Revisado: 08-05-06
So I read this book to conquer my fear. It all seems so fantastic, I'm not sure I can believe (which really helped with my fear of aliens) I like the narrator and the subject kept my interest. I had never heard of this before and have not seen the movie. He is an expert at building conspiracy theories. I do wonder if it's true or if he's just a bit touched.

Historia
Following in the tradition of John Howard Griffin ( Black Like Me) and Barbara Ehrenreich ( Nickel and Dimed), Norah Vincent absorbed a cultural experience and reported back on what she observed incognito. For more than a year and a half she ventured into the world as Ned, with an ever-present five o'clock shadow, a crew cut, wire-rim glasses, and her own size 11 1/2 shoes, a perfect disguise that enabled her to observe the world of men as an insider.

How can such an interesting topic be so boring?
Revisado: 08-05-06
I am dissappointed in this book. It sounded like an interesting read and I exercise while I listen to books so it was a surprise when this one made me want to go to sleep. I think it's her voice, she conveys no emotion whatsoever, it sounds like a robot and that makes it hard to believe she could interact with the people in this book so effectively. She sounds bored and unimpressed with her experience and by extension she has made me bored and unimpressed with it as well. I also don't like the level of manipulation she employs to "research" this topic. To me it's a simple justification for sadistic interactions with strangers. I think she is lacking in character and I don't like her book.

Returning to the territory he so brilliantly explored in his masterful New York Times best seller American Gods, the incomparable Neil Gaiman offers up a work of dazzling ingenuity, a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth that is at once startling, terrifying, exhilarating, and fiercely funny, a true wonder of a novel that confirms Stephen King's glowing assessment of the author as "a treasure house of story, and we are lucky to have him."

An Excellent Adventure
Revisado: 08-05-06
I really enjoyed this book. It was so entertaining and vividly written. The person who read it was top notch. I tried to find other books he'd narrated but to no avail. I liked the characters more than the plot and in some places the plot lost me but overall I wish I had more books like this one. I loved it.

FANTASTIC
Revisado: 08-05-06
This book is inspiring without being preachy. I really appreciate the authors honesty. It was a great read but painful in places because of her horrible life situations. The narrator is one of the best I've heard (I heard a sample of the one read by the author and it didn't sound as good, go with the unabridged read by Bahni Turpin and you'll have a better experience). Well worth the money and time.

So glad it's over
Revisado: 02-25-06
This book is excruciating. It was a challenge to finish because of the horrible narration coupled with the lack of plot. All these characters had were problems, unsolvable problems because they were all too lazy and selfish to fix anything. It was a frustrating read. Someone please invent a time machine so I can reclaim my mispent 16 hours. Who cares if it won the Pulitzer. It's tremendously tedious.
