I really enjoyed the reading Red Cliffs. Very happy to revisit the story with an audiobook...read by the author. Audio quality was excellent. Usually that suffers when an author DIY's a reading.
This is a thrilling story with lots of legitimate nautical jargon blended in. Do you know the difference between a sheet and a halyard? Do you know what a pelican hook is? Not necessary to following the story, but you can tell the author has lived the cruising life.

Don't Strike Out...Read this book.

Very much enjoyed the examples of ambidextrous marksmanship which provided a feel as to how far the Ambidextral Rifleman/Gunfighter concept could progress. Inspiring story of the huge change in instruction philosophy....away from the "don't strike out" and "don't fuck it up" focus. I detected elements of "The Rise of Superman", too.

Solid spy novel with legit "tradecraft" but without the poser masculinity of the Clancy types.
Casual mention of Golitsyn, Angleton, and "wilderness of mirrors" suggests at least passing knowledge of defector literature.
Movie is uncomfortably dark. If you have read "Out of the Night" or Golitsyn or "Origins of the Fourth World War" or Sun Tzu or "American Betrayal", you should not miss this book/movie. Without that homework in pocket, I suspect the plot will be nearly incomprehensible.

A few times it is a bit preachy on libertarian philosophy, probably necessary to get the uninitiated up to speed.

Good voice, carries well in vehicle travel. I really like that the author read his own book.
What character would you cut from The Boy Behind the Gate: How His Dream of Sailing Around the World Became a Six-Year Odyssey of Adventure, Fear, Discovery and Love?
Reduce the incessant emotional departures,the unending hugs, the tears. I kept pushing on hoping to get to some serious sailing but by chapter six, my wife just couldn't stand it anymore and suggested we cut our loses and switch to James Baldwin's book.
Any additional comments?
Maybe it moves more into the sailing experience after chapter six, but the repetitive emotions, tears, hugs, etc. just got boring. We may skip ahead a few chapters and see if the emotional baggage is left behind or at least delivered in a way that the listener can empathize with the feelings expressed.
