This is the best story and outstanding narration combination I have enjoyed for a long time. For my money bad narration lessens the impact of the best narrative but outstanding narration lifts even an average story into a five star category. I wish I could give Victor Methos and Steve Carlson six stars in all categories. Terrific!

Historia
In one bloody night, three of Washington’s most powerful politicians are executed with surgical precision. Their assassins then deliver a shocking ultimatum to the American government: set aside partisan politics and restore power to the people. No one, they warn, is out of their reach—not even the president. A joint FBI-CIA task force reveals the killers are elite military commandos, but no one knows exactly who they are or when they will strike next.

Historia
On a frigid New Year’s Eve in Minneapolis, a young woman’s brutalized body falls from the trunk of a car into the path of oncoming traffic. Questions as to whether she was alive or dead when she hit the icy pavement result in her macabre nickname, Zombie Doe. Unidentified and unidentifiable, she is the ninth nameless female victim of the year, and homicide detectives Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska are charged with the task of not only finding out who Zombie Doe is but who in her life hated her enough to destroy her. Was it personal? Or could it just have been a crime of opportunity?

OUTSTANDING
Revisado: 01-02-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book was hugely enjoyable. The characters were credible, the plot was gripping, and the inter-familial relationships realistic and touching. I would definitely recommend this book and will listen to more of Tami Hoags books.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The 9th Girl?
The sadly flawed relationship between mother and daughter - Penny and Julia. Tragic.
Have you listened to any of David Colacci’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No - but I thought David Colacci's narration was outstanding. I tend to be very critical of narration since it can easily ruin the listening experience - but this guy is marvelous. Speed, characterization, and appropriate emphasis, etc. were spot on
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Boys in the Boat to be better than the print version?
I listened rapt to the story and do not own the printed version. The writing is first class and the historical detail fascinating.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The story focusses on Joe's experience as he battles to raise enough money to pay for his college career at Washington University and for ultimate fitness and skill in the racing eight.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
My response to the book was one of admiration for all those who took their rowing to the pinnacle of success - their guts and determination at a time in American history when life was difficult and unrewarding.
Any additional comments?
Very, very enjoyable - highly recommended.

Historia
The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson, Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.
He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was...something smelled bad - like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to 15 bodies and counting.

Historia
When gangbangers shake down the modest owner of a Los Angeles eatery, Joe Pike intervenes. For all intents and purposes, Pike saved Wilson Smith's life. But for reasons of their own, Smith and his lovely niece, Dru, are curiously resentful. It's only when Pike's feelings for the woman deepen that he and his partner, Elvis Cole, discover that Dru and her uncle are not at all who they seem, and everything Pike has learned about them is a lie. But it's much more than a deception. It's a trap. And with every new twist it's proving to be a killer.

Revisado: 01-20-11
" "Faithful Place" is wrenching to a degree that detective fiction rarely achieves."(Laura Miller). Beautifully written, wonderfully intelligent and an extraordinary deconstruction of the ultimately dysfunctional family. The prose is clever and the observation detailed and perceptive. Running throughout is a vein of kindness and acceptance of human nature and the forces that move us. Tana French is absolutely brilliant as she brings us into more intimate contact with the texture and pathos of life in a poor Irish family than anything I have ever read. Tim Gerard Reynolds' narration is masterly and this is very likely a book that makes a better listen than a read.

Unexciting
Revisado: 03-23-10
Found this book dull. For me a book comes alive as the author builds credible characters who carry forward the action in a way that grabs and holds one's attention and, sometimes, one's emotion.. In The Motive this just doesn't happen. Narration was fine - did not interpose itself between the book and the listener in a distracting way - but could not rescue the essential tedium of the book.

Historia
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

Could not turn this off. One cold winter's night 7-year old Libby's mother and two sisters ae murdered. Her brother is convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Twemty years later Libby begins to look into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, unravelling a complex history woven by a mixed cast of dysfunctional characters. The narration is excellent. As the story is told first by Libby and then by the men and other women involved in the action, male and female narrators provide their voices. It is immensely effective.
