Basil Bohen was asleep when the System arrived and the world changed... Dungeons suddenly popped up across the planet, summoning invaders and monsters from alternate realities. Worse of the Verse
Revisado: 04-30-25
I listened to this maybe a year or so after listening to Vainqueur the Dragon. And this will contain spoilers.
What kept me off this series for so long was the voice they gave the MC it was hard to listen to but I adjusted.
But the biggest issue was this book was not great for multiple reason. It reinforced reasons I dislike when Isekai or game like systems come back to Earth or whatever original non-magical world the characters come from. It isn't enjoyable seeing people who aren't familiar with games at all or IRL government bodies using it and can be far more frustrating then anything.
The biggest issue was the MCs power and how many of the fights were won. It is already bad enough when people write a level 20 character beating a level 60 character through the most random plot armor ever. And then not showing those same character being level 60 and not once getting beat back even once by another level 20 party. I am use to LitRPG levels, skills, and abilities being boarderline random and overly complex but this made me almost give up on the genre all together.
If this wasn't a comadey my rage dislike of it would have been much much higher.
But the worse part is somehow Basil Bohen's story made the Vainqueur books worse...it kinda put a stain on that series with how many things played out throughout the interactions. I normally don't like stories with the level amount of jokes, memes and such in them but Vainqueur made it work and I enjoyed it. Yet with how this series crossed over it lowered my enjoyment of Vainqueur looking back on it now.
If you enjoyed Vainqueur the Dragon do not read this series. It honestly made me want to stay away from where Maxime J. Durand/Void Herald will take the multiverse next if they could possibly ruin my outlook on the original series I enjoyed so much.

A Great Follow Up, Even Darker
Revisado: 03-30-25
This was a good sequel to the first book for sure! Expanded the world and gave us plenty to work with for a new kingdom. Zargris was a hard character to love at times but by the end he wormed his way into me rooting for him at times.
You will experience a LOT of rough moments. You will say "That's rough buddy." Far more times then is comfortable. The characters go through A LOT more in this book then the first. Yet it all hurts the same, and not everything is cleared up cleanly. It did make me feel even worse for Razzan in the first book once you are further along in this one. And it gets dark dark at times that I had to pause and breath for a bit and then back into the emotional torture of a scene.
The spice in this one is amazing, even out doing the spice in the first book imo. Well written and do to the length was worked up too a little longer and even more was done here. It does make me wonder what the next few books will go into it. And eagerly looking forward to more!
And of course bonus points for being dragon dragons. No shifting into humans or anything. That alone makes this book highly rated for me. It does exactly what I want in that regard, no humans to focus on all on the dragons and drakes.

A Book Dragons! Story and Spice!
Revisado: 03-30-25
This, was the exact book I was looking for when it comes to Fantasy and Mythical Creatures! As well as being written for adults with plenty of spice and tension at times.
Even for a book with adult content it never forgot about the lore and world and kept it. The characters were introduced well, and I enjoy many of them throughout the story. Even the ones I never expected to enjoy caught my heart by the end of it.
Narrator did amazing work! Was perfect for switching between characters, and being able to tell them apart perfectly. Many male voice actors/readers can struggle separating the female characters when performing but Chase did a great job for sure!
And the theory I had nearing the end was exactly what I was hoping for! I am very eager for more from this writer and even more so from this series!

Perfect Furry Novella
Revisado: 02-23-25
I fell in love with and cried over Kunet & Shima's relationship! A Gnoll x Human relationship I never knew I needed <3
Utunu managed to craft something that had me loving each part of it for the short time we had with it. Managed to get in and then get out without stretching this on far too long, telling the story that he wanted to tell. The bits of drama in my eyes felt realistic and the progression of the relationship felt right.
If you want a Furry x Human LGBTQ+ Romance this is perfect! I would be lying if I wasn't choking up and in tears for the last few chapter. I hadn't cried over a book before as far as I can remember until this book landed on my recommended! I can and will never regret this listen ever!

Repeating and Uncomfrotable
Revisado: 02-16-25
I listened to this because it was suggested cause I been looking for more good werewolf romance, and I had been seeing it in passing for a while so I decided to give it a shot. And I regret it so much.
Somehow they did grooming and reverse grooming at the same time. The Ox being groomed by the Bennett, and somehow Joe grooms Ox into his partner, somehow they managed it. Ox and Joe's relationship is so uncomfortable and the excuses that are written in to make it okay just made me so very very uncomfortable and are large leaps in logic. The dynamics in general feel so much more forced then ever I question if this had more then one skim over.
And the amount of times they repeat the same lines over and over again, it was so much more annoying then I was expecting it to be at times. The amount of times "He said" and "She said" and "They said." repeat ALMOST BACK TO BACK at times was frustrating. I honestly feel like this needed a few pass overs by and editor and a few more revisions and it COULD be good.
Overall I wouldn't recommend it. You will not get what you are looking for here.

Boring and Most Characters Were Useless
Revisado: 01-29-25
To start, I only listened to this cause the second book has an anthrophonic character on the cover, not many fantasy stories focus on them so I was excited and had to start here.
It was not worth the time. The main characters are rather bland and are stubborn about the wrong things at the wrong times. And the information dumps for many parts of the story made it clear the writter didn't trust the reader to figure things out along the way, many of the early chapters are nothing but in universe lore dumps for how things are the way they are now,
And the "romance" was just so unbelievable and felt forced for how the main relationship in the second half of the book was done. It was just so not well done and became the bane of me listening to the second half when their was no real chemistry between Lago and the Bear (forgot his name).
And every character who travels with Lago is either a hindrance or quickly stopped being useful or interesting and just another mouth to be talking when they go most ignored at times. Alaia was just a beacon for attention when they were on the run, and didn't ad much beside backing up Lago's annoying wave of thought for their situation, Bear was the most useless animal companion I have ever seen and caused more problems then helped. And the two older characters that could have been interesting,
The villains were the only one really progressing but they were so unlikable I hated going back to them. Nothing about them made me want to see what they were doing or if they were interesting since they quickly stopped chasing the MCs for this book.
Honestly not worth the time, has the promise of something more but boring as can be, and more annoying then anything.

Surprisingly Boring
Revisado: 07-25-24
When I started this book it is because it was recommended to me for enjoying books about dragon riding and such.
Yet somehow I was very bored and didn’t have any interest in any of the characters stories or travesties the characters were deal with. Most of their issues start with just spending more time drinking then making me care even a little bit about them.
I may have kept going but this is just a more boring Eragon with an almost Viking like world of Malice. Somehow they didn’t mix well in this story. Info dumps and emotional whiplash was just more annoying than enjoyable. I do not suggest this unless you are willing to try to find the enjoyment in bland and boring characters and situations that really shouldn’t be happening with how each situation is set up.

Skill Soup & And A Bad MC
Revisado: 06-17-24
I was suggested this book by my brother, and I suggested one to him and I couldn't get past the 10 hour mark. It quickly made me dislike the main MC and style of LitRPG they were going to use for the power system.
Skill Soup is why I have stopped listening to LitRPGs, and this story is no difference. Give the MC well over 10-20 skills in less then half of the book from every little thing they do. I got to chapter 7, 7 CHAPTERS IN, and they had over 2 minutes of non-stop reading off just some of his skills alone the MC got. Last time I played a few different RPGs they don't give that many skills out that quickly that are almost random and out of nowhere.
Now the MC, wow, I knew he was going to be written with one, maybe two things in mind: He will always be right no matter what! This is shown by, he picks up a Chimera and manages to make it a pet cause he managed to get one when it was young and low level. While the people who live in this world only know them as deadly monsters, and he tosses a fit being like: Hey he is different cause he is my pet! No one else, even if it is a NORMAL FUNCTION OF THIS WORLD, is allowed to feel threatened by him cause I say so. I alone will changes possibly thousands of years of monster killing over the course of the next month. I could not get past him getting pissed at the women about threating the monster cause I knew it was coming and I wanted to slap him so hard.
It is damn near impossible to like him, and the worse part is managed to kill off 20+ enimes all higher level (10-15 levels higher) which just doesn't happen solo as easily as the writer made it out to be. This just locked in for me my brother has very much terrible taste in LitRPG writing, and even for power fantasy this was just annoying to get even some part through. I had to stop after 10 hours so I could return it before this felt like more of a waste.

Was Expecting More...Downgrade
Revisado: 01-21-24
Compared to his other writings, this book feels like a massive downgrade overall, and even if it was written for a younger audience I could see them being frustrated as well. Mostly those who play games similar to how the one in this book is explained.
Imagine if Pokémon/Pokémon Go mixed with Puzzles & Dragons and that is what the game is.
Positives: There aren't many. The cool thing is the alternate world with the Clocktower, and the ability of having the partner able to talk to you and interact with the world
Negatives: There are many, but the big ones is that Spencer is very unlikable. Even knowing his backstory and his struggles, the way it is portrayed and dropped out of nowhere on you in a trauma dump doesn't let you adjust to be ready for it. He self harmed at some point but the way it is handled here is very out of touch and doesn't make me feel bad for him at all, mostly with how he reacts to those even wanting to help him.
And as someone who has played games like Monster Gear, no one in there right mind would do what he is doing, as he just disregards the collection aspect for Zero. I understand making him stronger, but damn just how he is doing it makes zero sense for someone who supposedly and experienced gamer. He can still make zero stronger and collect other allies, and not be the perfect example of: I am the MC, so I get things that legit no one ever managed to do. At least make it believable.
And after a point they get very vague with powerups multipliers. Be vague so that the obviously weaker creature can beat the hell out of a character more then 10 times stronger. He clearly wanted Zero to beat Paradise so stopped giving states when they fought.
Overall this is a writing downgrade for DM Gilmore. And I would not suggest this book unless you wish to be frustrated by EVERYTHING. I finished cause I hoped things would get better but almost no character is likeable. The situations don't make much sense in terms of game progression. And the choices they all make are clearly being forced, not logical choices some of the characters would and should make.

Dragon being Dragons, Pretty Good
Revisado: 12-18-23
I got this because it was a free book so I take that into account when writing this review.
I am a dragon fan, and have a hyper fixation on dragons. So how dragons are depicted in this book and their lore for this series I will admit is amazing. Rather perfect in how things are done with their family structure and such, and it does feel like we are properly seeing the world from a dragons POV. How thing happen from a hatchling to a full dragon are laid out rather well, and the book is split into those parts as the MC Auron grows physically.
Of course the problem of the world always comes with humans being an issue. I do like how they make it obvious humans are not all the great, and cause more problems as even when they don't need to they act like caged animals and lash out at EVERYTHING. Only issue is how easily Auron is constantly finding the handful of people who are better, nicer, or more understanding then the rest. I do wish he was not tied down with humans, elves, and dwarves so easily.
Overall I think it is a good read, but their is a LOT of time skipping, and shit going wrong for seemingly no reason. And out of everything in fantasy the author seems to limited the amount of races in the world making it somewhat boring if we spend too much time with the none dragons. I do worry about how the rest of the series will go, seeing as the second book description scream: "We are going to spend a LOT of time with humans and the dragoness will like them rather easily."
Having the "good" group of humans being the only shining light for their race will make this more of a pain of dragon serving under humans as just oversized mounts far too easily.
