I'm new to the audio books side. Loved the written stories, and the audio is pretty good. Learned some correct pronunciations, laughed at two bad ones.
Overall a very enjoyable and faithful narration of the stories.

Pass.
Revisado: 05-19-23
1. The stories are hit or miss...mostly miss.
2. The Nararrations...3/4 are really bad. There is a narrator that reads two stories, that is an unlistenable torture session of horrible narration and writing.
3. Subject matter; if you're all for Predators teaming up with random Humans against six foot cockroaches,..Go ahead. If your not for Samurai Klingons joining forces with humans to defeat 6' cockroaches - PASS. Run hard and fast! the franchise is dying!

Behind Japanese Lines has a great deal to say about the relations with the Filipinos and about the problems of dealing with and fighting the Hukbalahaps, the communist guerrillas or, indeed, in opposing the Japanese. This book adds considerable insights into the significance of guerrilla warfare as it relates to modern warfare in general

Very interesting account, from someone whom was there. The narrator's mispronounciations, make this painful.

Historia
"Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" So goes the signature introduction of New York Herald star journalist Henry Morton Stanley to renowned explorer Dr. David Livingstone, who had been missing for six years in the wilds of Africa. Into Africa ushers us into the meeting of these remarkable men. In 1866, when Livingstone journeyed into the heart of the African continent in search of the Nile's source, the land was rough, unknown to Europeans, and inhabited by man-eating tribes.

Well Written.
Revisado: 12-13-20
Very well written account. Narrative is enjoyable and does not suffer from lapsing into "droning on" while reciting the story.
As to the source material, the author made an honest attempt to draw from contemporary sources and the journals of Stanley and Livingstone as well as the native accounts. so far as to highlight the hubris, arrogance, and racism of a White American with financial backing in the post-Civil War era of American involvement in Sub-Saharan Africa, without "grinding an axe" and ignoring the established reality of the African slave trade.
While a more objective account than a sensationalist "drag me into the story and history of this event", the narrative draws the listener into the romanticism of African exploration.

Well presented, and a engagingly written narrative. Did not suffer any of the "zoning out" that usually happens when listening to a retelling of first hand experiences

Outstanding
Revisado: 02-19-17
This performance is simply outstanding. Cast's performance is great, the dramatized script hasn't changed the original story.
Even on the technical side, the recording is very well done. No over-dubbing or poor recording volumes on the cast's microphones. A few sound effects are a touch too loud, but nothing is perfect, and literally being just a handful of six, it actually doesn't detract from the overall.
The performance does tend to go a bit fast, but then the story is novella that is a fast read, so nothing unexpected there.
