This was such a fun book!! While I wish I would have read it sooner, honestly, the audiobook was so freaking good that I’m actually glad I waited!! Sometimes the universe knows exactly when to hand you a chaotic masterpiece.

This book was NOTHING like I expected and somehow everything I didn’t even know I needed?? Absolute menace energy. Now the hard part: do I wait (horrible idea) for the rest to become audiobooks, or do I eyeball devour the series immediately? Because there’s no version of reality where I’m not finishing. I’m too far gone.

Also, this was my first time listening to this narrator and WHY was he such a perfect little menace?? His delivery, the snark, the way he leaned all the way into the madness—I couldn’t stop laughing. It was like he grabbed the book’s unhinged vibes by the throat and just ran with it. I hit play and boom, it was over in a blur of smut, murder plans, and Scotty being my new emotional support chaos goblin.

I need more Scotty in my life, immediately. No notes.

5/2024 Original Review:
“I was so tired of hurting and not having what I wanted, of being punished for who I was even when I tried to do the right thing.”

This book puts you through the emotional ringer. Which, I thought I was prepared for, I mean I was TOLD that it would, I knew that it would, I just didn’t expect it to hit how it did.

The author does an amazing job on the writing style, pacing and tone that you are sucked in and just feel every moment of this story. It is told from a single POV and at times I really wanted more POV, but now that I have finished book one, I am glad that there wasn’t.

Oh, and I laughed, like belly laughed. Plus the sister, she is a B, but at this point, I kinda love her. (I am sure I will eat those words later, or maybe not, but going lay it out there now so I can revisit and smack myself later)

As of this moment, I know how I want the story to proceed but I don’t want what I think I want. Or do I? I need more info, and after letting it sit for a week I can’t wait anymore and will be starting book 2!

Oh, the narrator was so great on having the characters be so different, even in all the emotional scenes and fun scenes. There was never a question on who was saying what part. I forgot that it was a single narrator a few times. The audio is a clean production and it was easy to listen to at 2.7 speed. (Though with the emotions, I slowed this one to 1.7. Faster went through the scene too quickly and soften the emotional blow. And let’s be real, we are reading for the emotions)

4/2025: Thoughts after Re-Read

The first time I read this book last year, everything hit with fresh, raw emotion—no spoilers, just pure gut reactions as I went in completely blind. But now, picking it up a year later, everything feels the same… and somehow so much more complicated. Characters I couldn’t stand the first time? I’m seeing them differently now, and it completely shifts the tone of so many scenes.

Even knowing how this trilogy ends, this book still hits every emotion—the same ones, just deeper and more tangled. I thought I knew what to expect, but it still pulled at me in ways I didn’t see coming. The second read is a whole new beast. The feelings are all still there—stronger, even—but now they’re layered, complex, and just a little bit cruel. Like the book knows exactly where to hurt you… and still goes for it.

Okay, so this book? I honestly almost bailed on it, but the narrators—full cast, absolutely killed it. They were the only thing keeping me from hitting stop and DNFing! You know who the bad guy is from the start, and while it’s not a whodunit, it’s all about the how and if for each crime. The whole time, you’re watching events unfold with a sense of inevitability.

Now, don’t expect it to keep you on the edge of your seat, this isn’t a thriller that’ll grip you tight, but the full cast brings it home in the end.

Okay, so this book—Wes, the main character? Total mess. Self-centered, career-obsessed, and irritating as heck, but you still can’t stop rooting for him. He’s separated from his wife, living in a hotel, and trying to stay connected to his daughter, but then he moves in with Elias—the weirdest roommate ever. Elias is a quiet IT guy with some seriously bad luck, and something’s off… real off.

The tension is real, and when the twist drops? I did not see it coming, but I was here for it. I hated Wes, but loved how the author made me think—what was in his control and what wasn’t?

This review is not going to do this book justice, I wish it would but I know it won’t…no way, no how! I picked this up because I needed something to make my heart happy, and based on the first two books in the series, I knew this one would deliver. Spoiler alert: it did. Big time.

I mean, come on: saving a stranger by pretending to be their boyfriend? Classic. But —plot twist—they’re the absolute worst match ever. A closeted professional hockey player and a sports journalist? Disaster vibes. This setup could’ve gone full angst fest, but nope! It stayed lighthearted in the best way.

And don’t even get me started on the hockey player’s family. They’re not just supportive, they’re overboard. Like, hilariously, adorably over-the-top. It’s refreshing to see a family dynamic like this worked into a story. The dad’s dry humor? Perfect. The mom? Oh, the mom. She’s so ridiculously loving and supportive that you’re torn between wanting to shake your head at her and wanting to protect her at all costs. And the brothers? They’re basically tall, sexy gods. If you lived with them, you’d want to wrestle them, smack them upside their heads and be annoyed with every breath; if you didn’t, you’d just… stare, drool, and stare. (Yes, I’m obsessed with his family. No shame.)

There were so many laugh out loud moments. The moments going into the treehouse, and especially getting out of it—had me in stitches. OH and breakfast after the attic!!! Seriously!! I may have read that part twice!!

Honestly, this book was exactly what I needed: lighthearted, funny, romantic, spicy, and just fun. The banter was perfect. The romance hit just right. If you’re looking for a book to brighten your day, this is it.

This book had a first for me. It introduced a character I started out loving, but by the end, I was—and still am—so, SO angry at them. (More on that later—it’s a side character.)

This is Book One in the 80ish-book Sadenverse series. Originally, I planned to only read Saxon James’ books and the Puckboy series. But I was quickly (and loudly) informed of my error—complete with looks that suggested I’d committed puppy mistreatment. Thank you to everyone at Love N Vegas who corrected me before I started this journey! Otherwise, I would’ve missed out on Maddox and Damon, and honestly, my life wouldn’t be the same without them.

Let’s talk Maddox. The guy tells his girlfriend he’s gay just to get out of marrying her. Now, years later, everyone still thinks he’s gay. So, of course, when the situation demands it, he has to pretend to be gay. Thankfully, his best friend has a gay brother (Damon) who agrees to play the role of fake boyfriend. But, BUT… (picture me gesturing wildly, trying not to spoil anything)…since this is an M/M romance, you already know Maddox isn’t not gay—but he’s not entirely sure what he is, either. We get to follow along as Maddox navigates his feelings and figures it all out.

Damon, however, doesn’t want to be the guy Maddox “figures it out” with. He’s been there before, and it didn’t go well. Damon’s inner struggle is so raw and realistic; nothing feels thrown in for drama. And just when I thought I had a handle on the story—BAM! Something happens that absolutely SHOOK ME. I mean, socks-off-my-feet, straight-into-the-washer kind of shook. But here’s the thing: it’s handled so well, and it lets Maddox really show that his words and feelings align.

Now, let’s get to Stacy—Maddox’s best friend and sister. She’s the prankster with a sweet face, the kind of person who’d defend you with her last breath…but also the kind who drives you up the wall. Sure, we love her for orchestrating the fake dating and the comic relief she brings in the first 30 pages. BUT, Stacy—girl—if you ever pull what you did at that dinner or that event again, I will personally find a way to write myself into this series to deal with you. You’re NOT cute, you’re NOT funny, and I am STILL so mad at you that I’m thankful you’re just ink on a page!

Duel Narration

One thing about Sophia Lark is I am always confident I will be surprised! For this book it was the amount of times I laughed! I absolutely loved Cole and Mara in book 1, but the banter and the way that they bounce off of each other in this book was perfect. There was some heavy topics covered between the two but the storyline continually progressed at a pace that never felt lagging because of the banter and the spice.

The choice of narrators went well with the characters and neither over Dramatised the opposite genders Voice in their chapter

Okay, so this was so well done. The amount of story you do not feel like it was rushed, but, I really do want this done o be a full length novel. Give me more from high school, the NY boyfriend, some of the MC POV…this was so cute, and well done, I am excited to see what this author has in full length!
