Historia
"In December of 1776 a small boat delivered an old man to France." So begins an enthralling account of how Benjamin Franklin - 70 years old, without any diplomatic training, and possessed of the most rudimentary French - convinced France, an absolute monarchy, to underwrite America's experiment in democracy. When Franklin stepped onto French soil, he understood he was embarking on the greatest gamble of his career. By virtue of fame, charisma, and ingenuity, Franklin outmaneuvered British spies, French informers, and hostile colleagues....

Very Entertaining
Revisado: 11-15-24
It’s takes many books to get grip on Franklin and his times, and some are tedious. This book undresses everybody it meets…which is refreshing and often humorous. Highly recommended. Narration is better than average, though slightly overdone to my ears. But I’m sensitive ;)

Historia
Aaron Sullivan explores the British occupation of Philadelphia, chronicling the experiences of a group of people who were pursued, pressured, and at times persecuted, not because they chose the wrong side of the Revolution but because they tried not to choose a side at all. For these people, the war was neither a glorious cause to be won nor an unnatural rebellion to be suppressed, but a dangerous and costly calamity to be navigated with care. Both the Patriots and the British referred to this group as "the disaffected".

The tergiversating majority calmly laid bare with professional rigor. A compliment to almost any other treatment of the revolt. Many lessons on human nature in the process. Unpredictable events spice up the story. Not without humor.

Positively 4th Street is a mesmerizing account of how four young people (Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Mimi Baez Farina, and Richard Farina) gave rise to a modern-day bohemia and created the enduring sound and style of the 1960s.

Page Turner…awesome

Well read, well written piece. You don’t know Dylan or Baez till you’ve read this, and real story is much more interesting than the mythology. I found narration outstanding, thank you!

Historia
Lord Byron's satirical take on the legend of Don Juan is a moving and witty poem that sees the young hero in a reversal of roles. Juan sheds his image as a womanizer and instead becomes the victim of circumstance as he is relentlessly pursued by every woman he meets. Comprising 17 cantos of rhyming iambic pentameter, the poem is a crisp and accessible meditation on the madness of the world.

5 star performance. Justice at last for Byron.

Keeble does an unbelievable job here. This is the closest any english writer has come to Cervantes. Incredible it is little taught in America or the UK. Benita Eisler has a wonderful biography which is a great companion. I can't imagine a better reading.
