Excellent Narrators fun story worth listening to
Revisado: 11-23-24
I like that it’s not the same old tropes of many other animae stories, the characters rather than being overpowered are more like trying too hard and a bit realistic since people can be that way too. Loved the duel narrators, I can listen to a lot of things and people but sometimes a dry male narrator in a story makes me go another way. This book does a great job paying a girl to voice a girl which is a lot easier on the ears. Keep up the good work!

lighthearted tale of misadventure
Revisado: 11-04-24
I enjoyed this book, it comes off as a lot more lighthearted than I am used to as a reader of the Sharpe Series however that is a mix of how the character Flashman views the events as much as style.
I was surprised to see all of this is grounded in real history and that is often time so absurd it's funny to the point of spitting your drink out. who knew horse farts could make 800 Spanish men run for the hills instead of fighting the French

Historia
Critically acclaimed, perennial New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell (Agincourt, The Fort, the Saxon Tales) makes real history come alive in his breathtaking historical fiction. Praised as "the direct heir to Patrick O'Brian" (Agincourt, The Fort), Cornwell has brilliantly captured the fury, chaos, and excitement of battle as few writers have ever done—perhaps most vividly in his phenomenally popular novels following the illustrious military career of British Army officer Richard Sharpe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

I own both versions and enjoy them both bloody good times
Revisado: 09-29-24
the Richard Sharpe series is oldie but goodie. these days with soo much useless whining and DEI lies told about everything I like to kick back and just listen to regular heros do their thing. Bernard Cromwell does a good job of bringing the semi mideval world of the 1800+ year era to life. this is a time when if you had an enemy you could just kill him if you were careful. but even killing the enemy has its costs.
also even though Richard Sharpe is on the winning side not everyone agrees with him so the twist here is our main character spends almost as much time proving himself or fighting his own side who are arrogant pompus Scottish or English gentlemen or the down in the dumps corrupt Sergeants and Privates looking for a quick buck and lots of booze. there is nothing approaching a happy ending is just a king of the hill style brawl one problem after another for Richard Sharpe and he learns as he goes both how to be an Officer in his own way and that he does need friends and somewhat to share the loot the women, the glory in a very messy and NOT perfect world.
Ultimately the lesson is there is one is up to you the reader to decide. even at the last battle with Colonel Dodd, Sharpe is forced to accept help... which shoes a little bit bout real life too. unlike more modern books which try preaching virtue the Richard Sharpe books present all of the ugly and all of the fighters ways to fix it. morality and everything to do with modern wokeness gets to take a back seat to just how brutal the setting is and even if you had a 2010 era person there in the heros shoes big deal nobody would care what you had to say, same as they didn't care how good a job Richard Sharpe does in every assignment. they only care about rules and how everything looks and how Sharpe does not come from gentle society. no amount of wokeness or pretend buying better clothes fixes that.. only experience and mabey going forward and selectively getting and holding onto better friends.
Listen for a brawl and a good time without any modern BS strings attached which most modern authors seem to feel obligated to tack on to people please and cow tow.

Historia
Bordeaux, 1367. Having angered the bloodthirsty Don Pedro, King of Castile, Sir Thomas Blackstone is thoroughly sick of his mission for the Prince of Wales, but must remain true to his oath. But this is the Hundred Years' War, and tensions are rising once more. With the Prince of Wales deeply unpopular in his Aquitanian lands, Blackstone, King Edward's Master of War, must return to French soil to help stem the tide of support for the King of France.

Blackstones Son gets stuck in
Revisado: 07-10-24
it nice to see after many books a fresh perspective with Henry Blackstone having his problems and getting through some of them on his own contrasted with Thomas Blackstone at the highest levels of danger and intreague. The two men lead very different lives and seeing how the older Blackstones actions ripple out and are seen and heard by others even his bookish clerical lawyer of a son is a fun take filled with trouble. The apple must not fall far from the tree because in no time at all Henry gets into a serious altercation with a man over claims about his father then has to flee and makes a blood enemy out of a famous and legendary master swordsman and this before his first real battle! Great book, some of the scenes or chapters can be frustrating because they are slow but not everything can involve swords and Calvary charges it's worth it to see the whole picture.

Historia
Dirk Struan rose from humble beginnings to build Struan & Company, also known as the Noble House, into the world’s largest Far East trading company. He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming.

older storytelling makes life stand out
Revisado: 04-03-24
the main character has grit and would walk through hell to help his friends. a lot more to look at and nod in approval of as you listen than a lot of main characters you go through in newer books. while this is not a huge battle book the history behind the book surprised me and shows the crazy of the era at work.
I loved the flavor of the the book and the narration

Historia
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

Great tale with twists and turns
Revisado: 03-21-24
There are few books worth binge listening to these days but this is one of them. It’s not a simple war or a simple peace but a twisty turns labyrinth of honor or dishonor you only know some of the events the actions ahead of time so the outcomes while sad can be monumental compared to many stories. Read it or listen to Shogun to become a little Japanese and maybe keep your head!!

Action is needed and Wayward Galaxy delivers.
