Historia
A Yuletide dinner in West Brompton should have been a festive occasion, until the host, wealthy Stephen Whitfield, dropped dead before the second course. Now, Mrs. Jeffries and the busy sleuths must rally in support of their inspector, especially since the clues are harder to find than a silver sixpence in a plum pudding.

My ears hurt
Revisado: 04-17-20
I listened all the way to the end but I doubt I will ever listen to this book again. The performance was actually painful in many places. Both the maid's and the footman's voices were SO high and squeaky that I had to keep adjusting the volume to protect my ears. I have enjoyed reading the Mrs. Jeffries series but couldn't get this one as an ebook from the library so I went to Audible. In future I will buy a Kindle version rather than risk this narrator again.

During an early morning feeding for her four-month-old twins, Meg Langslow hears an odd noise and goes downstairs to find her living room filled with dozens of animals. She soon learns that financial woes have caused the local animal shelter to repeal its no-kill policy. Her kind-hearted father, her zoologist grandfather, and other like-minded citizens have stolen all the shelter animals, both as a gesture of protest and to protect them until the hated policy can be repealed. But the volunteer who was transporting animals to new homes has been murdered.

Peacocks please!
Revisado: 06-10-18
I have enjoyed all of the Meg Langslow series and am really hoping Audible will complete the series with the 3 titles that aren't yet available (especially Murder with Peacocks).

Any additional comments?
I enjoy this series and have read/listened to all the books more than once. I am truly hoping that Audible will continue to give us the rest of the series. I'm holding my breath for "Six Geese" and "Stork"!

My last one
Revisado: 03-17-17
Would you be willing to try another one of Matthew Brenher’s performances?
No. It detracts from the story and the characters. I find my self having to go back and reconstruct sentences and phrases to get the intended meaning.
Any additional comments?
I own several Laurens books read by different people. I returned one read by Brenher because his reading completely destroyed the lead character. I kept others simply because I wanted the audio version, but I'm done. When the next book in the series comes out, I will get a print or kindle version. I don't trust the narrators any more. No more 'foppish' Barnaby Adair, Scottish Richard Cynster or Dalziel mispronunciations for me.

Any additional comments?
I have most of Amanda Quick's books, but (for me) this one is not a keeper. I'll stick with her "modern thinking" Victorian women.

Where's Barnaby?
Revisado: 06-28-14
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character should have been Barnaby Adair but due to the narrator's performance there was a stranger taking Barnaby's role. The affected drawl this narrator used had no resemblance to the character who was so entertaining in several other of Laurens' books.
What didn’t you like about Napoleon Ryan’s performance?
SLOW and monotone. I zoned out several times and had to go back to find plot points that I missed.
Any additional comments?
I'm probably done buying Laurens' audio books after this experience. I tolerated Mathew Brenher and Steven Crossley's mispronounced words, characters gaining or losing accents (Helena IS French, Scandal is not a Scot, Dalziel's name change in the last 3 Bastion novels). I'll stick to print or Kindle editions and replaying the Simon Prebble and Rosalyn Landor books.
